Emmanuel Iheanachor

Barely 24 hours
after he was officially declared as
winner of the Saturday
presidential election, President
Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria on
Tuesday suspended Capt.
Emmanuel Iheanacho, Minister
of Interior over a number of
lapses in the discharge of his
duty.
The president who many have
accused of not been able to take
decisive action against erring
members of his cabinet,
according to a statement signed
by the Special Adviser to the
president on Media and Publicity,
Mr.Ima Niboro, said the
suspension was with immediate
effect.
He said the suspension was a
result of a number of lapses in
his handling of the ministry.
He said Iheanacho had since
been asked to hand over to the
Minister of Labour, Mr. Emeka
Wogu, who will, in addition to his
presentportfolio, oversee that
ministry.
The three paragraph statement
reads, “President Goodluck Ebele
Jonathan has ordered the
immediate suspension of Capt.
Emmenuel Iheanacho as Minister
of Interior and member of the
Federal Executive Council.
“Capt. Iheanacho has been
directed to hand over to the
Minister of Labour, Mr. Emeka
Wogu, who will, in addition to his
presentportofolio, oversee that
ministry.
“Capt. Iheanacho’s suspension
comes as a result of a number of
lapsesin the political leadership
of the ministry traceable to his
personal and official conduct.
For now, his continued manning
of the ministry is not in the
interest of the nation.”
