In April2021, the Federal Government has approved the activation of new SIM card registration with mandatory NIN linking. This was revealed in a statement signed on Thursday by Dr Femi Adeluyi, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy's Technical Assistant (Information Technology). According to him, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, coordinated and led the implementation of a revised National Digital Identity Policy for SIM card registration in collaboration with all other stakeholders in accordance with Section 23(a) of the Nigerian Communications Act 2003. The most recent development was found in President Muhammadu Buhari's approval of a revised National Digital Identity Policy for SIM Card Registration. “Ownership of a National Identity number will be needed for each of these categories.
