Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Sunday morning Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers: 1. Thousands of youths, women and leaders of Yoruba, yesterday, staged a protest in some streets of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, demanding for Oduduwa Republic. The protesters were led by a Yoruba group, “Ilana Omo Oodua”, clamoring for self determination. 2. Following an alleged plan by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria to deploy 5,000 of its vigilante to the South East to protect herders in the zone, the IPOB has warned the association to steer clear from Igbo land, just as it has threatened to deploy its outfit, the ESN to the North. IPOB gave the warning in a statement by its media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful. 3. The PDP Southwest zone, yesterday, commended the former governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose, over his decision to unite the aggrieved party members in the zone and for prevailing on Dr Eddy Olafeso and other candidates that contested in the just concluded PDP South West congress from challenging the outcome of the congress in the court. The party’s zonal Publicity Secretary, Sanya Atofarati, made this disclosure in a press release on Saturday. 4. Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Ali Isa Pantami, yesterday, renounced some controversial comments he made on Al Qaeda and Taliban which led to the call for his resignation. While answering questions during his daily Ramadan lecture at Al-Noor Mosque in Abuja, the minister said he now knows better about some of the comments he made in the past. 5. Governors of the states battling with Boko Haram terrorism in the North-East have asked the Federal Government to issue a special fiat, different from the general one issued earlier, to enable them to speedily prosecute suspects arrested for terrorism. 6. Chairman, Takum local government council of Taraba State, Shiban Tikari, narrowly escaped death yesterday as armed militia opened fire on his vehicle leading to the death of his police orderly. 7. Armed men suspected to be Fulani herders, yesterday morning, butchered a family of four and three other residents of Mbamondu community, Modern Market Council Ward in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue state. 8. The Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, yesterday, called on Muslims in the country to rally support for the FG’s COVID-19 vaccination programme by being vaccinated to save their lives. Oyetola made the call on Saturday while speaking at the 26th Annual Ramadan Lecture of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Abuja Branch. 9. Troops yesterday resisted an attempt by the Islamic State of West African Province/Boko Haram to take over Kumuya Military Base in Yobe State. Following an attack, the military restricted movements on Damaturu-Damboa-Biu Road to enable it trail the fleeing insurgents. 10. Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday ruled Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State off the track over his recent allegation that the FG printed N60 billion to augment the March revenue allocation to states.
