Too many universities with substandard facilities and resources for research . I guess this Govt is fucking crazy and they don’t know what they are doing . How is the new converted polytechnic will be financed ? Overbill students whose parents are not making enough ? Or under bill students and make up the short fall from their end ? Is this sustainable on the long run with paucity of funds from the fed govt .

this NASS is useless. just to pass law to create universities. to increase salaries, to create schools.
dey no fit pass law to improve the economy

converting yabatech to university story has been for almost 15 years.
when will it be done should be the main thing.

Abi o. We've been hearing this for so many years. The issue is being raised in the Senate almost every year. There was a time it was Kadpoly and Yabatech, then Ilaro and Yabatech. They certainly not serious about it.

I went to uni but polytechnic graduates funny enough have more chances in the job market than university graduates this is because polytechnics are obviously more technical than theoretical universities and that's what employers are actually looking for, the jobs that Bsc holders are needed in is already over populated with enough applicants....but for some educated mugus calling yourself a Bsc holder is more important than having a job.

Our name remains YABA COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY. If you like call it University, if you like call it Poly or even Monotechnic, my school remains YABATECH.

The best university in the world is a polytechnic that is MIT.
Polytechnic of Namibia ranks as one of the best universities in Africa coming ahead of Unilag. The only university ahead of them in Nigeria is OAU.

No need of changing the name, just license them to award Bachelor, Masters and PHD no need of wasting money trying to change what does not need to be changed.

We need more technical colleges than universities in this country but the moment the minister of education name is Adamu Adamu i know sey wahala dey...if the institutions are located in the north they would have upgrade it to university abi...

I've not seen anything good in this news: rather a saddened attestation to incompetence and inability of our leaders to grasp reality and be proactive with it.
leaders in sane world identify problem and solve or ameliorate it but in our clime, our leaders identify the problem, speak English to it, then device a means of creating more of such or aggravate the problem. but unfortunately, there are hordes of people cheering them on due to different reasons such as ignorance, syncophancy or benefitting from the rot.
Nigeria is always an example of how not to make a country work.

I was in the Server Unit of the IT department of a Bank a few years ago after crossing from another Bank. We were actually six in number.

I went to Yabatech.
One guy went to Yabatech.
One guy went to Fed Poly, Ado-Ekiti.
One guy went to Fed Poly Ilaro.
One guy went to Ondo State Poly
One guy went to Unilag.

There were other Units in the IT departments and the ratio of Polytechnic to University graduates was 60 to 40 in favour of Poly graduates.

However, other departments of the Bank had 60 to 40 ratio in favour of University graduates.

So, generally there were more University than Polytechnic graduates in that particular Bank with the exception of IT department, Accounting and Finance department (according to ICAN report, more Poly graduates have passed ICAN than Uni graduates), Admin and Maintenance department (Architects, Estate Valuers, Civil Engineers)
