The next recession will be the worst ever in Nigeria history. Predictably, by Q2 of 2021, Nigeria will slide into her 4th recession, all under Buhari's government. This is a fact looming on our faces, if you blink, you are economically deseased. By the mid-Q2, $1 is projected to hit N750, CBN cannot hold it as our import dependence cannot be supported by oil and gas earning. Then FG and CBN will have no option than to redenominate the Naira, such that the new Naira would be equivalence of US$50. However, your Naira in your bank would be devalued by 500%. Say you had N500,000, you will get N1000 new Naira That is not the problem. The problem is that the new Naira would become eroded in a year or 2, because the productive capacity of the economy is weak and our consumption will remain higher than production. Hence as an import dependent economy the new Naira will become worthless again. Unfortunately, our minister of Finance only knows how to borrow. Our debt servicing (not repayment) would swallow up non oil earning. Already states are already finding it difficult to pay salaries. Printing of currency would exercebate the already inflationary trend, leading to hyper-inflation. Government may clamp down on BDCs in her desperation, not minding the operators are Hausa/Fulanis. The signs are everywhere now. Already some banks have pegged $ deposit to only $5k a month, this is to reduce amount of Fx people are buying and reduce the exhange pressure on few dollars coming in. For you and I, the only option for self preservation is to save our money in Dollars or Pound Sterling. A word they say is enough for the wise! 8 Likes |

Even the govt can target the money you saved in dollars by telling banks not to pay you in dollars but in local currency. It happened in Argentina, Zimbabwe and recently happening in Lebanon. Unless your dollars is abroad, its not safe 2 Likes |

nedu666:But at the point of collection it would ve based on the ruling rate. Imagine you kept N20m in your bank last year, now, it is about 67% of your original value. However, if you saved it in USD, you would exhange at todsy's rste. Not even sure govt can push her luck that far! 3 Likes |

So after you save in dollars , won't you still convert the dollars to naira to spend ? This saving in dollar thing only makes sense if you have huge saving like from 250 milllion naira upwards but if it's your 200k salary it's absolutely nonsense |

What the OP is trying to highlight is the fact that the purchasing power of the naira is declining Y-O-Y which has severe negative impact on our economy and arguably the result of the hardship and high inflation we are experiencing today. Thank you OP. |

exactly what I was thinking yesterday. see Nigeria can never be revived...price of dollars would soon get to $800, price of fuel would get to #200 meein people go suffer o... so yesterday I restrategize my plans so that I will be earning in dollars. The best option is secession. Oduduwa Biafra and middle belt country would emerge by force because the suffering would be too much to bear as Nigerians. |

The last fight was against patami, now it is against the minister of finance and hausa and fulani people. We are already in quater 2. To be sincere, you don't have an idea of how an economy works. Is it government fault that people in this country only know how to consume than produce. All government all over the world print money, it is not a crime. Fyi, the supply of money is infinite, don't let anyone deceive you, economic books and real life economics are 2 different things. Lets imagine, your claim is true and that we should all convert all our money to dollars because of hyperinflation, don't you know that government can also limit access to your dollars or even cease it to pay its international debtors because of dollar scarcity. Go and ask the citizen of Cyprus, once they had crisis, government restricted access to lot of accounts, Government then created a law that says No insured deposit of €100,000 or less would be affected, but with the law 47.5% of all bank deposits above €100,000 were also seized. |

Validated: Those who have ears will listen. But there are those who perpetually stay deceived by fake government assurances and lies told by politicians that will be impoverished overnight by the coming huge depreciation of the naira. Even saving your money in Ghana Cedis now is better than leaving your huge operational savings in naira. Even our thieving politicians quickly convert their money into dollars, Renminbi and Euros. |
