HON. ABAYOMI SHEBA ESQ. URGES NIGERIANS TO STOP VOTING LEADERS BASE ON SENTIMENTS.

BY. PRINCESS EIGBOKHAN ORIH.

Everyday in Nigeria is news of insecurity, kidnapping of the citizens, our schools are shutdown in some part of the North, the people are living in fear and there is high rate of uncertainty and the level of poverty is alarming in the country. Then I asked myself who is to be blamed. Is it the citizens who sold their votes or the citizens who refused to vote or the leaders who refused to do the right thing?.

2023 is Election year a year that should make every Nigerian proud. You can make your voice heard and celebrate a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.( democracy) Wherever you fall on the political spectrum, it is a beautiful thing. And say no to vote buying and stop voting base on religious, political and ethic sentiments.

Yet for whatever reason, many Nigerians will choose not to vote. The highest voter turnout in recent memory was 2015, when 48% of eligible people voted. Many were thrilled with that level of civic engagement - even though it meant that 52% of eligible voters did not participate. Democracy needs an active, engaged, educated population. Civic engagement is key. You can vote right, left, or center, just as long as you vote people with credible background who will represent your interest in government.

The former Acting chairman of the federal character commission Hon. Abayomi Sheba Esq. Says “To make democracy work, we must be a country of participants, not observers. Because a person who does not vote has no right to complain.

According to the ondo state born politician “To vote is like the payment of a debt, such duty can never to be neglected, the citizens can demand transparency and accountability from those they vote into power. Because the future of any political party in our country is in the hands of the Nigerian voter.

Hon. Abayomi Sheba Esq who has once represented okitipupa/ irele Federal constituency quoted Abraham Lincoln. “Elections belong to the people. It’s their decision. If they decide to turn their back on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their blisters.

He also quoted Dolores Huertab who said “If people don't vote, everything stays the same. You can protest until the sky turns yellow or the moon turns blue, and it's not going to change anything if you don't vote - but I Hon. Abayomi Sheba is saying if you don't vote base on people credibility and stop selling your vote for kobo and cry for another four years nothing will change in Nigeria.
