*Cross River State Health ranks second best state in 2020. The only state in Nigeria to have 60% of its estimated TB cases diagnosed and placed on treatment- FG*

The Government of Sen Ben Ayade working through the commissioner of Health Dr Betta Edu and the entire health team made up of dedicated health workers and administrators have continued to show exceptional results in the health sector as Cross River is second best state in 2020, coming out tops in most pragmatic activities implemented in 2020.

According to the Federal Ministry of Health, National Tuberculosis, Buruli ulcer and leprosy Control Program Cross River state has 100% coverage for all old cases diagnosed of TB and the only state in Nigeria that has over 60% of Estimated TB cases diagnosed and put on treatment, “this is a huge feat for Cross River state and I must strongly commend the Governor and his team. This achievement is expected to continue in 2021 with the state doing better if more rapid action is taken.” Said the National Cordinator Dr Chukwuma Anyaike when he visited the Honorable Commissioner for Health Dr Betta Edu in her office in calabar to present the score card along side Executive Director of KNCV Dr Odume Bethrand and the Global fund team.

Nigeria comes second behind only India in terms of tuberculosis cases. Every year, around 245,000 Nigerians die from tuberculosis (TB) and about 590,000 new cases occur (of these, around 140,000 are also HIV-positive). TB accounts for more than 10% of all deaths in Nigeria.
