I saw a thread trying to revise history https://www.nairaland.com/6534250/aguiyi-ironsi-did-not-dissolve-regionalism/ that is a malicious attempt to revise history and we the reasonable Nairalanders won't take such Decree Number 34 of May 24, 1966, promulgated by Ironsi caused massive unrest in the Northern part of the country as the Northerners had gone against delimiting of regional powers as far back as 1959. The decree made the centre strong, thereby abolishing the powers granted to the regions. In June 1966, Ironsi began a tour of the country (never to return to Lagos) and met with the Northern elite, assuring them of a united Nigeria. thehistoryville.com/ But, Ironsi was in a hurry to make an impression. In his May broadcast, he declared: “Nigeria shall on the 24th May, 1966 cease to be a federation and shall accordingly as from that day be a republic by the name of the Republic of Nigeria, consisting of the whole territory, which immediately before that day was comprised in a federation.” As federalism was abolished, the regions ceased to exist. From their ashes sprang up a group of territorial areas called provinces. Each region became a group of provinces, with a National Military Government at the centre. The late Head of State had also proposed a new economic plan, but it never saw the light of day....thenationonlineng.com According to Ndayo Uko, the Decree no.2 was to serve "as a kind gesture to the press" to safeguard himself when he went on later to promulgate the Defamatory and Offensive Decree No.44 of 1966 which made it an "offense to display or pass on pictorial representation, sing songs, or play instruments the words of which are likely to provoke any section of the country." He also as per the proposals of a single man committee passed the controversial Unification Decree No. 34 aimed to unify Nigeria into a unitary state..... wikipedia.com 11 Likes 1 Share |

And in Aburi Igbos established confederation, but the Yorubas, Hausas, Fulanis and the rest of Nigeria rejected it and opted for the current unitary system that is currently being practiced 6 Likes |

If ironsi destroy regionalism and so? We igbos don't support restructuring, what ironsi did is right. Nigerias problem is corruption not our federal system of government 1 Like |

theTranslator: The Aburi meeting did not last for 2, 3,4 months. It lasted for a few days. Yorubas, Hausas, Fulanis and other Nigerians had 2,3,4 months to adopt confederation, what did they do? They went and started creating new states that was not agreed on, in Aburi. Today 100s of months down the line, they still haven't adopted confederation. Ojukwu restructured Nigeria fairly, but other Nigerians have kept Nigeria skewed. 11 Likes |

theTranslator: Ojukwu proposed confederation. It was agreed on, at Aburi Gowon came to Nigeria and rejected it Gowon instead created more states that was not agreed on Ojukwu declared Biafra It was Gowon that declared Police action/war on the east. Not Ojukwu. Today it is very possible that Nigeria will break up because of the refusal of the rest of Nigeria to implement confederation that Igbos proposed after around 54 times 12 months. Ojukwu took the horse to the stream (proposing confederation), but Igbos/Ojukwu can't force the horse to drink(confederation implementation). So the current structural ills of Nigeria have been caused by non-Igbos, including voting in a terrorist in 2015 12 Likes |

theTranslator:Funny you talk about patience been the best, goes to show how you low IQ morons indict yourselves by using the principles of your misplaced morality wrongly against yourselves... so you were expecting Ojukwu to be patient when his people were been massacred all over Nigeria? Secondly you yoruba scums will pay VERY dearly for voting in this disaster of a government that has brought nothing but suffering, deaths, pain and anger in the worst order of its kind... the very fact that yaribanzas voted Buhari into power calls to question the political sagacity, integrity, and credibility of you animals, the blood of Nigerians are on your hands and your region will know no peace for that. 8 Likes 1 Share |

Since Ibos have failed woefully in intimidating other NIGERIANS and have been resisted in their domination agenda which is why they keep shouting marginalization even when they control the economy (they want to control every aspect of Nigeria) The next thing they are doin now is Revisionism, trying to rewrite history from denying the obvious ibo coup to never referring to how into leaders were hoping to lord it over other tribes but emphasizing Ahmadu bello submission that Nigeria is a fulani estate...,..but unfortunately for they have failed in their Revisionism too 12 Likes 1 Share |

NwaAro: Shut up there This is a democracy, your reasoning is anti democratic. You don't insult me or demonize me for making my choice just like you made yours..,.that why isn't democracy, its useless if we all had voted Atiku just like it would have been useless if everyone had voted buhari.......stop all these curses and stop being a sore loser..... You can't win everytime . Do you insult God for not answering some of your prayers ? People were suffering in 16 years of PDP rule but I never heard any Yorubaman curse the ibos for foisting Obasanjo on us even when majority of yoruba prefer someone else . Talking of blood, the blood of all the people Boko haram and killer herdsmen killed before 2015 Is on the head of all who supported PDP which consist of 95%ers 19 Likes 4 Shares |

Difrent: Bloviated Rubbish, you apes voted a disaster like Buhari with all his terrible antecedents when he was military head of state in the hopes of securing power in 2023, unfortunately that 2023 dream will surely backfire as power isn't going to the SW. Facts are sancrosants, security under PDP and OBJ was far better than the disaster we have in place now, how often did you hear about fulani massacres, kidnappings, communal clashes, armed robbery etc under OBJ? Buhari's administration in just 6 years of office had witnessed more deaths, ethnic divisions, and deep seethed insecurity than anytime under PDP (and that says alot because PDP was terrible). 11 Likes |

Difrent: Another round of brainlessness, if any section of the country will decide the political destiny of the Igbo man in becoming president, you irrelevant yaribanza apes are the last to even be considered anywhere close to serious contenders. When was the South west aside from recently in 2015 (when you finally managed to vote in Buhari) ever relevant in Nigeria's political space? you lots were stuck in the oasis of political opposition for many years and none of your votes even mattered in the large scheme of political discourse, your vote failed to make Awolowo president, failed to make Olu falae president, Abacha showed you apes pepper after shattering Abiola's dreams of becoming president, you voted massively against OBJ yet lost badly... because you managed to finally get it right by voting in Buhari ( a colossal disaster and reflection of the stupidity of Yoruba political decision) we no go hear word again . Those people you call 5% are still doing far better than your people in every fair and presentable indices, your fellow Fulani 95% recently chased your people into Benin republic as refugees and more yaribanzas statistically since this year alone have been killed by fulani herdsmen attacks, the average Yoruba man on the streets of Lagos sees the Igbo as his nightmare since Igbos have bought up all the major shops and commercial institutes in Lagos, apart from Lagos the rest of the SW states are suffering under poor fiscal conditions plus huge debts that are not commensurate with their IGR and they can't even pay back those debts, I could go on and on... I must admit, for a people who braggadiciously claim to be 95%... you're doing a terrible job at maintaining that status quo. 8 Likes |

NwaAro: Such a long epistle to justify the uselessness of your 5% votes. NwaAro: All these happened because your leaders kept licking the fulanis ass and will rather enslave your tribe than support a Yorubaman......see where it has gotten you, your darling party see you as third class (HAUSA/fulanis still regard YORUBAS more than you ) and not worthy of making one of you president , isn't that the greatest marginalization, even more than buharis perceived marginalization at least buhari made your kinsman his photographer and we have one of you cleaning the gutters in Lagos , that's fair enough for a tribe that enslaved themselves for 16 years with nothing to show 9 Likes 1 Share |

Difrent:You must have a natural gravity for regurgitating garbage and tripes, but let me indulge you this one last bit of attention before I get rid of you like the disposable irritant that you are. It should suffice you to know by now that the average Igbo man doesn't give a flying fu*k about Buhari, Yaribas or even Nigeria at large. Whether or not PDP hands the presidential ticket to an Igbo man is inconsequential at this point cause Nigeria is at its worst form of national sustainability and might implode soon. But I can play any ace cards right now and confidently state that an Igbo man has a better chance of becoming president than a Yoruba come 2023, if you're hoping on Tinubu to somehow become president, then you might as well book your comedic stand up stint in advance cause it sure ain't happening . Once Buhari leaves in 2023, that race becomes open and fair game to anyone including the North who will likely present a Northern candidate in APC (or a South South/ North Central) candidate before they even consider a Yoruba candidate. Lastly Buhari didn't demystify Igbos you ninny, if anything he proved Igbos right as to why he's an absolute disaster brought upon Nigerians as unfolding events have proved. So Buhari is the perfect reflection as to why Nigerians- if they are smart, shouldn't hinge their political hopes on anything relating to Yaribanzas, cause you guys are just good at making wrong political decisions at every turn and history will repeat itself again. 8 Likes |

NwaAro: The above epistle doesn't remove the fact that NO IBOMAN WILL BECOME PRESIDENT COME 2023. The best political decision of this republic is YORUBAS voting APC......we have VP, Speaker HOR, super ministers fash, interior minister and other strategic positions.....we host 3 of the biggest ongoinginfrastructure projects in Africa according to CNN(lekki deep sea port, Dangote refinery , Lagos Kano railway line)......our region is relatively secure You people are envious of all these but you had your chance under PDP (obj was a disaster to Yorubaland who couldn't fix the road to otta, couldn't complete 120km Lagos Ibadan expressway expressway or the Ibadan ilorin expressway) and if PDP didn't do half of what APC is doing in Yorubaland for your years of slavery to them , whose fault 7 Likes 1 Share |

theTranslator: You people love peddling falsehood. The thread was not about if Ironsi changed Nigeria from a federation to a Republic. It was about if it was Ironsi that abolished Regionalism and introduced unitary rule. Republic simply means that people are now self governing. I asked two questions 1. How is it possible that Ironsi abolished Regionalism when all 4 Regions he met when he cane to power were still existing the day he died? 2. How is it possible that Ironsi introduced unitary rule when the four Regions not only existed, but had resource control and fiscal federalism? Decree 34 only standardised and unified the civil service. The decree neither abolished the Regions nor introduced unitary rule 5 Likes |
