With a transit visa, You are allowed to go out of the airport(sight seeing, shopping and whatever) for the amount of hours given to you.

I am thinking, if someone has got a transit visa to a country, say for example now, SOuth africa issues a transit visa to someone whose traveling to another country but would be having stop over with them. THe transit allows him to stay 72hours in the country. Can he be able to go out of the airport or compulsory, he/she must be within the AIrport Premises,

   Not very so, a transit visa on a Nigerian passport does not (in most cases) permits its holder to leave the airport terminal so, you are only allowed to stay within the airport terminal until your connecting flight takes you away.
   However, for a transit visa holder to be allowed to leave the airport terminal of a transit country, there are criteria to be considered.
1) The nationality of the traveller
2) The type of travel document/Passport held (IE Diplomatic)
3) The country of transit (IE Bangladesh)
4) The onward destination and the visa type (assuming Australia)
5) The travel history (Perhaps EU visited)
6) Immigration officer's discretion (Must be satisfied of your departure plan)

NO, you can only stay within the airport terminal except you hold a diplomatic passport

That sucks. They really need to give nigerians a break
