The Vice-Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Prof. Sunday Oge Elom, has vowed to support the Campus-Green Initiative of the University by embarking on aggressive tree planting campaign.

The Vice-Chancellor made this known when the Staff of the Campus-Green Initiative led by their Coordinator, Arc. Ifeanyi N. Chukwu paid him a courtesy call recently.

At the event, the Vice-Chancellor stressed the importance of tree planting in the present period of climate change and charged the staff of the Campus-Green Initiative to take their duties seriously in order to make AE-FUNAI one of the most environmental-friendly and climate-smart Universities in Nigeria.





Speaking further, Prof. Elom assured them of his administration’s support especially in the provision of the necessary facilities needed to run the programme, adding that the immediate past administration did very well in tree planting, and therefore promised to continue from where they stopped.

The Vice-Chancellor also used the opportunity to announce the elevation of the Campus-Green Initiative to a Directorate.

Earlier, the Coordinator, Campus-Green Initiative, Arc. Chukwu had stated that the purpose of their visit was to present the performance of the Initiative to the Vice-Chancellor, and also highlight the challenges facing the programme. And pleaded with the Management to approve fund to enable them plant more trees on campus and also maintain the already existing ones.

The Coordinator further informed the Vice-Chancellor that they have planted over 33, 000 trees around the University, while also assuring of their willingness to plant more in future.
