I can't really tell why that is the case. Amongst the Ijaw clans I think they place too much emphasis on that. It is a tradition on some sort. You experience glamour in other clans like Nembe, Ibani( Bonny& Opobo), and Okrika but I think Kalabari is on another level.

For instance an Okrika man is only concerned about what his wife wears but a Kalabari man is very much concerned about what he wears and what his wife wears. Under such circumstances the Kalabari couple would be viewed as more glamorous.

The culture is also the same across Ijawland with a few twists. Like there are hats used everywhere. Some are popular amongst the Kalabari and others are popular amongst the Opobo and Bonny people. These little variations are only known by insiders.

I am from Rivers state, I won't mention my clan because of people here. People who try to change our history as Rivers Ijaw people.
