Where Are The Nigerian Progressives? by Faithful007: 9:45pm On May 08, 2021 |
Nigeria is obviously facing serious issues of late. From insurgency to hate crimes, Abductions for ransoms and Violent ethnically motivated attacks on police formations. This in my opinion is as a result of failures from the government. The continued negligence of the people from the public sector and the ruling class has only began to yield expected results. It looks like Nigeria is being run like a private company with good aims for profitability and dominance but with little or no interest in issues facing the people but rather causing more unrest with inactions and provoking statements. The presidency of Donald Trump is a classic example of how far right wing politics together with outrageous statements can divide a country. APC calls itself an all progressive party, but there's almost no focus on progressive politics. Oil prices are falling and it's harder for Nigeria to make money, and what do you spend the money on? Infrastructure, military spending, e.t.c, not forgetting the inevitable corruption, and then insecurity is on the rise. Where are the social programs? Poverty alleviation schemes and the rest? You can't keep using the little money you have in your custody to spend on new infrastructure or whatever. You have to alleviate the situation of the everyday Nigerian. That way we have less bandits, herdsmen, gunmen to worry about. The RUGA scheme is quite controversial, at least to rural Nigerians. But large scale pasture irrigation in the north as well as incentives and programs for intensive cattle rearing ought to be paramount to the government. You can't keep allowing farmers and herders to clash and expect things to change. It seems the Nigerian political structure has no ideology. Bearing names they know nothing about. This explains why people find it way to switch parties. They're basically the same. Always conservative on issues of governance with no respect for human rights. We cannot continue this way. Things need to change. This begs the question, where are the Nigerian progressives to bring the desired change? No Insults, banters please.
