The government of Lagos State has announced the replacement of motorcycles and tricycles on Lagos roads with Last Mile vehicles. This move will potentially throw thousands of operators out of job and create more hardship for commuters.

Gboyega Akosile, spokesman to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a tweet via his official Twitter handle said the state government was going to make a major announcement on motorcycles in a few days.

“A major announcement on Okada by Gov @jidesanwoolu to come in few days. Meanwhile, the Governor has announced that the Last Mile vehicles as a replacement for Motorcycles for the inner streets in the State,” He tweeted.

Lagos is overly congested. It's time the Federal government design an industrialisation master plan to open up other parts of the country for mass and gradual industrialisation.

For example, the sea port in lagos is limiting the economic potential of our country. The reason for this is because Ondo State las has the longest and deepest maritime territory in West Africa, but it is lying idle.

The implication of the aforementioned is that over-concentrarion on lagos sea port is denying us of the economic benefits of job creation, sundry migrations, revenue generations and others that we can derive if our leaders can open up this area.

Also a regional hub for IT should be designed. This hub will be for IT as it is in Silicon valley in the US

Experts should be consulted to design an Agricultural catchment master plan to harness opportunities the abound in this sector.

These are the few things I believe the FG can do to ease the tension off the neck of Lagos. I don't see lagos surviving population explosion if this daily inflow should continue for the next 10 years.

They will survive or if China stops producing motorcycles will they die ? They will simply look for alternative means.

Lagos is overly congested which is a major source of concern to the inhabitants. FG should ensure that there's even distribution of opportunities across the other states. I find it foolish that thousands troop in to Lagos daily in search of greener pastures which is barely existent.

All these won't help.

They should bring metropolitan train service, tram, add that to BRT or whatever its called now and this will be over.

No that they don't frequent where such is used.

I always say this. All politicians in this world steal. But when you work and steal especially in country like Nigeria, people will look the other way.

Logos owe bogus debt yet things like water, transportation, housing and electricity eludes this massive city.
So what did they do with the money borrowed over the yrs then?.

Lots of private cars equals more pollution, noise and aggressive behaviours.

There is no Okada in all the major cities of Nigeria South East, South South, Kaduna, Kano, Abuja, etc.
Why do people wail so much anytime any South Western state tries to ban Okada?

It's high time governors in SW banned it for safety and security. People should go to farm instead and let the lazy one that can't be patient to take bus trek. When it was being banned in Enugu, Owerri, PH, etc about 10 years ago people didn't believe there would be way out. So also in Awka, Onitsha, Kaduna, etc.

The rate at which Okada bikes are being loaded into Lagos, Ado-Ekiti, Ilorin, Akure, and all other SW states is alarming. These people that Okada isn't allowed in their states would be causing trouble, robbing and fighting for useless rights to ride which they can't try in their own states.

The governors' inefficiency is making SW already sitting on the keg of gun powder. Boko Haram operatives and Bandits already infiltrated the rank of the bike riders; they are just waiting for order to retrieve their weapons to start slaughtering and bombing while the Fayemi, Sanwo-Olu, Makinde, Akeredolu, Oyetola, AbdulRahman, Abiodun of this world are sleeping.

This is a time to think practically. Nigeria and Lagos is facing serious challenges and this is no time to be taking flights of fantasy.

The Okada menace needs to be reduced drastically for the safety of us all in Lagos. Trains and trams don't cost 20 Naira and they are not options Lagos State can deliver overnight.

We should support any initiative from the Government of Lagos to curb the Okada menace.

Thank you. The population growth of Lagos is unsustainable. Very important to note that majority of migration into Lagos is undesirable, negative and a menace to the society. I.e unskilled, homeless and uneducated folks without potentials to invest in Lagos or create employment.

Pragmatic leaders know that those sort of immigrants are aggressively discouraged by most societies worldwide and Lagos must begin to do same.

We must start thinking with our heads and not our hearts because we will all go down otherwise.

Taking things further is the serious security risk Northern okada riders may now pose for Lagos.

It is only those who do not love Lagos or value their lives who will object to tackling this Okada menace once and for all.

They should go to their village. Did you notice the influx of the abokis and those from Niger are everywhere in Large numbers, you will even see some akward and dirty looking lots among them with new bikes and you get to wonder who is sponsoring them.... my mind tells me they have an agenda and what makes it obvious is that when u hit one of them , you will see how many of them will surround you in no time ready for showdown

What is society's business with that..so because they want to feed their children we should allow them constitute nuisance on our roads ..other road users want to feed their children too ....Okada always attracts low live criminals into it's ranks

Lol. Typical dumb Nigerian. Have you used the train service or tram you are talking about? Tell me where and when so I can educate and discredit you here. Not everyone goes around bragging emptily the way vacuously arrogant Nigerians like you do to make you no different to the worthless leaders you all love to criticise.

We are talking about cost and feasibility and this ignoramus feels he must try to belittle others to give his empty, ignorant and uninformed argument gravitas.

London alone has many overground trains and trams that has cumulatively cost many billions of dollars to deliver . How much do you think the yearly budget of Lagos is? Ignorant noisemaker.

When even the small Croydon tramlink cost £200 million ( circa 137 bilion Naira at today's exchange rate) and had to be concessions for 99 year lease under a BOT (build operate and transfer) arrangement, so that a private consortium bears part of the financing burden, where the fck does an ignorant empty barrel think Lagos will get the money overnight to build even 5 of those small tramlinks overnight as you ignorantly suggest can/should be done?

https://www.railway-technology.com/projects/croydon/

The concession bid winner to design, finance, build and operate under a 99-year lease was Tramtrack Croydon Limited (TCL). The consortium comprised CentreWest Limited (part of First Group), Sir Robert McAlpine Limited, Amey Construction, Royal Bank of Scotland and Bombardier Transportation.

Of the £200m project cost, TCL contributed £75m, with the central government covering the remainder in view of the general significance for London.

Go back to school or better still, go around with humility so you can learn from others instead of assuming you're better than them as most emptily arrogant and unexposed Nigerians do. It is what is killing our nation. I.e clueless doofuses like you , with no humility, mouthing off to people they should be learning from.
