I don't have problem with scraping NYSC, but I have problem for doing that because of insecurity. What will then happen when the security issues are over. Does it also mean that this people had seen that the insecurity will not stop.
My opinion is for them to tackle the insecurity let people leave a normal life.

How can fellow youths support such proposal, it is disheartening to see some of the comments above.

NYSC shouldn't be scrapped for so many reasons. Some of them are :

1. Scrapping the establishment means you are sending alot of people home(nysc staffs and co.) there by increasing the unemployment rate in the country.

2. Most youths kick start their career/life journey from nysc, I know alot of youths who are full time employees in their various place of work, courtesy of the nysc program.

IMHO, every country needs some form of National Service/military training/para military for its youths as a rite of passage.

It builds patriotism and let the youth experience another aspect of their country.

I thoroughly enjoyed my service year and it helped me see/explore the SS part of the country.

Rather than scrap NYSC because of insecurity, why can't they make country more secure?

Would students or traders be stopped from interstate trips? Would Nigerians no longer take interstate trips for leisure?

I don’t think its a good idea if NYSC is scrapped. It could be optional but not scrapped. A lot of youths use that period to plan their lives and the 30k paid by the government solves the needs of millions of people at least for the full one year

Not just the upkeep. NYSC posting was a life changing moment in the life of some us.

I enjoyed my service year as well. Camp was wonderful, in fact i remember wishing we could remain in camp for longer.

I also achieved a lot during my service year, so i don't look back on that 1 year as a loss.

What a waste of one year after college graduation. Instead of the Nigerian government to send graduates to different companies where they can actually learn skills in the field of their studies , and after that they get employed, they are sending them to remote villages, giving them military training , and physical activities without building any skill.

for the fact that NYSC scrapping bill didn't succeed in 2010 during Goodluck Jonathan's administration, which I thought they would succeed in scrapping it, I don't think they'll succeed now

here is the reason the program won't be scrapped..
1.. corrupt leaders are feeding from it, if you knew how much is being projects on only the khaki outfit yearly, then you will know why the embezzlers won't allow it happen

2... every government is shying away from scrapping it because they feel the program has passed through governments including military, so they don't want to be the one to end it, that's exactly what Jonathan did

3... the people calling for it to be scrapped are probably the ones not benefiting from the embezzlement, so they are acting out of envy, if you gave them the opportunity to oversee the affairs of NYSC, they will grab it

Good idea but the allowee should stand cos so many graduates wey dan hustle through school dan put mind for that allowee to start up something since work no sure again.

This scheme should have been scrapped a long time ago because it is a cheating scam that underpays graduates despite the huge amount budgeted for it every year.

Considering how much the NYSC gulps every year, and the little it gives back in return with regards to its original aim of unification, it is a COMPLETE waste of resources.

The scheme is excessively over-hype and with FG wasting billions of Naira on foods and all other logistics yet what they dish out in camps are below mediocre.

The monthly allowance is now N33,000 and by 1 year is N396,000. Why not pay each graduate this lump sum after due verification to enable them start up something in life to encourage entrepreneurship, than exposing them to all manner of life-threatening circumstances all in the name of "service to the nation"

The aim of this scheme had long been defeated and I can't wait to see when it would be scrapped indeed.

Back to the topic, its neccessary scrapin dis program as employers has capitalize in enslaving corp member to a heavy task and giving them little or no stipend at the end of d month always singing how they ar for service to humanity and how FG is paying them for it. My lodge mate in school had an accident in ore and that ends his dream(rip davido), what did nysc do? Notin. We all laboured in vain and at the end starts from square one. Some are apprentice now, some teachers, some idle, some bombers, many got ideals but no fund, many are back to the street, many are in bet9ja, yet many are graduating yearly. A fulltime work that a graduate would have done instead they will use corpers and after their service they will ditch them and order for new corpers thereafter. 396k would hep many graduate start up something but heck no they won't do that.

It is long overdue, I can never forget November 7th 2005,during my service year, I was attacked by armed rubbers on my to bauchi state where I did my service, from Lagos.
It was a day that I can never forget in a hurry, I was beaten and dekitted for serving this God forsaken entity. May help his children.
