MBA Salaries In Nigeria? by jaja77: 10:49pm On Jul 12, 2007
Hello
Does any one know what the pay is for MBA graduates. I did both my undergrad and graduate degree in the US and plan to move back to nigeria.

Thanks

I don't know for certain what the salary range will be, but I think you should command more than a million naira a year if you work for the oil majors, telecoms etc .  Try and do some post-MBA work before you leave for Nigeria to boost your resume and starting salary.
Re: MBA Salaries In Nigeria? by ebos(m): 9:24am On Jul 13, 2007
The type of company you work determines it. Some are paid less than 700k per annum while others get millions per annum. Don't be surprised some companies can offer you 480k - 500k per annum. It just depends on the companies
Re: MBA Salaries In Nigeria? by Soundmind(m): 9:54am On Jul 13, 2007
It depends on your area of specialisation and the company that employed you as well. Telecom, banks, oil coys pay more than some other coys. These one will pay you more than 1m per annum. If you are working for govt, you will receive less than 700k monthly unless you have a windfall.
Re: MBA Salaries In Nigeria? by koko777(m): 10:04am On Jul 13, 2007
@ ebos, You  are quite right!

@jaja77,  The coy will determine the pay, if you are fortunate to nip a multinational coy, definitely the pay will be bulky due to your qualifications, but i'll advice you work for like a year or two in the uk to garner experience(s), that will give you an edge and makes you stand tall.  Anyway, no reputable firm will pay you less than 1.2m/annum, meager sei, that's Naija 4 u! Pray you get your God given job, then you 'll be smilling to bank at the end of every month. Goodluck!

hi jaja,

it's all about having a strategy. look for multinationals that have strong presence in NIGERIA , work with them for about 2 years   and the apply to their NIGERIAN office.

you can try the oil, telecomms , good banks like  HSBC etc.

in two year , you will determine your pay. one thing i have noticed in NIGERIA is that employers can pay you almost anything, it just depends on you
Re: MBA Salaries In Nigeria? by RoughCut(m): 5:01pm On Jul 14, 2007
Like a lot of ppl on this forum have said stay in the US for a couple of years  garner some experience and when you come to nigeria you dont necessarily have to work for  anybody. You can look into freelancing i.e working as an independent consultant not sure what your specialisation is though. Start your own management consultancy outfit and that way you work as an independent consultant and you can determine what you charge your clients and you can consult for different companies and organisations thus making you more marketable. Not sure you know how much 1M Naira equivalent is in US $ about  $10,000 sure you want to settle for that after that expensive MBA in the US.

Nigeria is service sector especially financial is booming all you ned to do is fogure where the gap is and try to plug that gap with what you will be offering. You can look at finance, management consultancy, IT, corporate governance and if your MBA is finance oriented you can look at Risk Management especially in these burgeoning banks. Risk Management/Control is big business in Europe.

The point i guess i"n trying to make you dont need to work a salary you can generate a source of  income without looking at earning salaries

what on earth is that, 1.2M PER ANNUM, or is that supposed to be per month. How can companies be paying 1.2 per annum, that is really really small.

In previous posts, i thot there were people that said that a fresh graduate earns 1.69M in Zenith etc etc?

1.69 is per anum, and that happens to be one of the highest around, outside oil and gas and a few others. welcome to Nigeria!

There must be an idiot on every thread on nairaland talking about things that are annoyingly off topic!

Both of you are referring to fresh graduate salaries and not MBA salaries. The poster needs to know what salaries he can earn with his MBA degree. The earlier posters gave good salary ranges and I think they are okay. Just that it will depend on his post MBA experience too.

Thanks for all your replies, I have a total of about 8 years experience working in the US, six years post first degree. I have worked in various industires ranging from IT service companies to banks. I recently started working in the business sector  for about two years, that was part of what inspired me to get a MBA.

I love Nigeria. I have been away for 10 years and want to do some good there(in Nigeria). MBA 's here get paid good on average, but i also hear that Nigeria is place one can make good money.
Re: MBA Salaries In Nigeria? by debosky(m): 2:10am On Jul 16, 2007
well mmy apologies, with that much experience you can work out a good deal for yourself, the big banks, Telecoms and Oil industry will be your main targets.
Re: MBA Salaries In Nigeria? by Tats(m): 2:12am On Jul 16, 2007
With 8 years of experience and an MBA, you will get a very good paying job in Naija. If you have not visited recently, then spend some weeks in naija so that you have first hand current knowledge of the environment that you intend to live.

Re: MBA Salaries In Nigeria? by spikedcylinder: 6:41am On Jul 17, 2007
The original poster is not asking you to advice him on if he should come back to Nigeria. He's asking what the pay is like so answer his questions and quit being mother Theresa. If he has any fears,am sure he must have evaluated them,he doesn't need anyone to tell him why he should or shouldn't come back to Nigeria.

@poster. . .so koko and jaja are one and the same person then? Why the ambiguity?
Re: MBA Salaries In Nigeria? by mimiko(f): 9:28am On Jul 17, 2007
i bet u can speak out his mind!would rather be mother theresa than a Magret,u re thesame person calling someone(obviously a fresh member) an idiot instead of redirecting him to the right thread, if u know so much y cant u just say something the poster will benefit from. instead of analysing every poster.

u should be asking about companies that will favour ur consultancy. Ok

So big up and think of something great, U no go US to come back come be salary earner

I would say that you would probably not be worse off if you decide to move to Nigeria.
Position yourself to be head hunted. there are a lot of companies that recruit from abroad back to Nigeria. so you don't have to leave the US before getting a job. so you know exactly what package you would receive before relocating. plus you get additional relocation allowance which usually is about an extra million or there about. this you would get upfront.

you would even be able to bargain and negotiate. With 8yrs experience, you shouldn't be out of a job for a day in Nigeria. Trust me. If you are interested i can give you a few web site to check out.

I had only a few months experience in the UK, on getting to Nigeria, within two weeks, I had two job offers and i picked the one with some multinational where i was being paid well. and i didn't even have a foreign degree. against popular beliefs, i also didn't know anybody in the company.

I am presently back in the Uk because I am pursuing a postgraduate degree.

I know a lot of friends who also have good tales to tell. none of my relocated friends are worse off in Nigeria. Besides you most of what you earn is yours to keep for real. Unlike in the developed countries where you find that as the money comes in, it goes out on mortgages, bills and what not. Living expense is relatively lower(even after deducting cost of getting a driver, cleaner, house keeper, baby sitter, school fees and what not).

Nigeria has been classified as an emerging market by the world bank, there are enormous opportunities in the capital market. you can literally make a 100% return pa by investing your savings in the capital market.

Now tell me, how much better can this get.
Re: MBA Salaries In Nigeria? by bricks(m): 12:36am On Jul 18, 2007
I think most of you are getting the facts wrong.,cos i discovered that the figures you are quoting are actually figures for fresh graduates.
An MBA holder (from abroad for that matter)would actually command alot more higher than all the figures i have seen qoted regarding this issue.
all he needs to do is get some working expererience overthere before coming back to nigeria to make him more marketable. It is not possible for him to come to nigeria & start earning 1.2m when start up pay for a graduate in ecobank is 1.7m;& definitely ,he cant just go for any corporation as if he is desperate.nuff said. grin grin grin
Re: MBA Salaries In Nigeria? by sunville: 1:50pm On Jul 18, 2007
Its surprising the different shades of opinion on this topic
I commend  the patriotic zeal  you are exhibitting. With the kind of qualification u are parading i am sure you'd be an easy sell in nigeria. Nigerian companies go ga ga  over foreign  qualifications to the extent that many of us  are ready to selll all we have  to  get this foreign qualifications despite having obtained several nigerian qualifications and several years working experience.
One other thing you can do , learn to be a good public speaker- it's icing on the cake. With this  you can sell yourself to any organisation by making some noise about yourself.
Income disparity in this country is a topic you can do an Mba thesis on. Some people in the oil and telecom sector can make between 10mil and 25mil per annum , in the banks , between 3mil and 12mill per annum, in the cosultancy, between 2mil and about 10mil while in the public sector it is between 500k and only god knows.
if u are seriously desirous of coming home you should have started posting your cv all over, start with the banks, go to their websites and also the big cosultancy outfits too. it will do you well to start early.
Best wishes.

Good Evening,
Sorry this is coming late.
Sincerely with your qualification and years of experience, I want to let you know that you should be thinking about nothing less than 9.6m per annum that is if you know your way. I will suggest you send your CV to the top shot in the oil firm and you will be surprised as they will be bargaining to get you.

True talk my guy.
Also, keep in mind Nigerian business environment is totally different from US. Most people with business degree and corporate exposure in US still have to establish themselves in Nigeria first, before they can tackle consultancy. If you want to move with the big dogs, then It will be a good Idea to get Nigerian exposure first, network, develop credibility within the industry before you dable into it.

Re: MBA Salaries In Nigeria? by AjanleKoko: 6:32pm On Nov 17, 2010
@OP,
There is no known salary benchmark based on qualification in Nigeria, unless in MNCs with a global salary structure. Even at that, the MNCs don't regard Nigeria as a company with a developed labour pool, so they generally lump skills together.

Though if you want to relocate to Nigeria, try the big three, KPMG, PWC, or E&Y. Mckinsey is also in Nigeria.
Apply through their US career sites, or get in touch with a recruiter over there.
Their pay should be reasonably benchmarked against global consulting salaries for MBAs, I think.
Other Nigerian organizations, asides from some banks in the recent past, have not shown any particular demand for MBAs.
Re: MBA Salaries In Nigeria? by lekside44(m): 9:26am On Nov 18, 2010
1 million a year is slavery for an MBA holder in Nigeria, not to talk of US. a fresh graduate will only barely try to survive on such salary, how much more a family man with say 4 children. he might go begging. if you intend to come back and work here in Nigeria, meet standard industries and negotiate for a million naira per month. if they offer something a little bit less, you may just throw in the towel.i know of a neighbor who was an accountant with multichoice with a salary of 1 M per month. she won a visa lottery and was confussed with either leaving the job to join her husband in the us, or keep her milk and honey job. she later left for the us.

cost of leaving is high here. to get and average 2 bedroom, you need 700 to 800k. but for GRAs, starting from 1 M and above. think of your car, cost of repair and maintenance, cost of fueling. what about recreations. well, if you need a life style close to what you have over there, think twice.
