Ondo State Governor and Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, Rotimi Akeredolu, says it is important for the country to legalise the cultivation of cannabis for medicinal purposes. He spoke on Thursday on a live interview programme tagged ‘Governor Speaks’, which is part of activities lined up in commemoration of his 100 days of his second term in office. Akeredolu was sworn in for a second term on February 24, 2021 after he won the October 10, 2020 governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. Speaking during the live interview, the governor said cannabis could be a strong foreign exchange earner for Nigeria if its cultivation was legalised. Akeredolu said, “We must find a way to legalise cultivation of cannabis for medicinal purposes. There is nothing wrong about it. We are only shooting ourselves in the foot. It is a foreign exchange earner for people outside the country. People want this. We ourselves, even our pharmacies want to develop… “I travelled out of here and I was in Thailand trying to study the cultivation of cannabis for pharmaceutical use. We did all these, we even went there with NDLEA (National Drug Law Enforcement Agency), the chairman at that time went with us, maybe he came and said what he went for was for a different thing but that was why we went and all I felt that let us look at the way they did it over there. “Everybody has drug problem, most country has drug problem. We are having it here, it is not as pronounced here as in other places but there are ways they went about these things that those who are involved in drugs, those who are selling, those who are exporting had other ways of doing things that they had to leave it. So, when we talk about cultivation, we are saying in which it is a monitored one, in which NDLEA will have an office (near farms).” https://punchng.com/why-nigeria-must-legalise-cannabis-cultivation-akeredolu/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter&&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter&__twitter_impression=true 1 Like

Governor Akeredolu also took his twitter account shortly after the live interview to announce that Ondo State will host a Stakeholders roundtable dialogue on Cannabis next week. He made the announcement while reacting to a tweet by Saharareporters. In his tweet, Akeredolu said "We will keep the conversation going. Diversification is key. I am looking forward in particular to the stakeholders roundtable dialogue on Cannabis which will be holding next Monday and Tuesday as part of the #Aketi100DaysInOffice activities. https://twitter.com/RotimiAkeredolu/status/1400500458330984448?s=19

@ondofirstborn, you forgot to tell us how your boss has not been able to pay workers' salaries since January. Pray tell, are workers going to feed on cannabis? Go back to your oga and tell him he has failed Ondo state people and that prosperity will not be fair on him. |

Atteraino: You will not believe this but the only currency legalizing cannabis in Nigeria will bring is our own local Naira, because our weed is crap, we lack the knowledge to grow it, and other nations grow it a lot better than we can imagine and have lots of experience of processing it, so no one will have our crap, just as no one wants our yams or our beans or our cattle meat, definitely not! In fact, legalizing cannabis in Nigeria will bring only a lot of fuq stoned people and no money at all as everyone and their dog will plant and flood the market with crap. But at least a lot of people will be too stoned to get out of bed on Sunday morning which might be a good thing especially if they didn't have jobs to wake up for in the week. Kids! Get off my fuqing fence! Damn kids!

budaatum: This is why the Governor is pushing for its legalisation so that you will never be arrested in the first place. |

budaatum: If you read the at all, you will see where Akeredolu mentioned his trip to Thailand to study the cultivation of cannabis for pharmaceutical use. The specie of cannabis that grows in Ogbese, Ondo State is of the best type of strain. If Naturally we grow the best strain, then we can learn how to grow whatever strain for medicinal use. |

Re: Why Nigeria Must Legalise Cannabis Cultivation – Akeredolu by budaatum: 8:34pm On Jun 03, 2021 |
OndoFirstBorn: If we already grow of the "of best strain" (I'm laughing, by the way), why do we need to legalize it to "grow whatever strain for medicinal use" when we all know most of it will be smoked by touts and agbero and amugbo peoples? Its not just the growing, but the processing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2Op2oKVCEo |

Without question, Governor Akeredolu is one of the greatest leaders ever to occupy a political office in Nigeria since independence in 1960. The initiative to legalize medical marijuana cultivation at the federal level will generate MORE wealth than petroleum, Nigeria's primary source of foreign exchange. One barrel of crude oil is defined as containing 159 liters of petroleum. The current price of a barrel of crude oil on the international market is $68 USD. Therefore one liter of crude oil costs ( $68 dollars per barrel, DIVIDED BY 159 liters per barrel) which equals 42 cents(US) per LITER. Now, that same one liter of cannabis oil extract costs $79,000 US dollars. THEREFORE cannabis oil costs approximately 185 thousand times the cost of petroluem crude oil, per unit volume. I hold a college degree in a science subject, and I researched this subject meticulously, so I challenge anyone to point out a math error here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sG5bhO420I In the 1.11 minute mark of the above video clip, a Lesotho government official quotes the figure of $79,000 USD PER LITER of cannabis oil, just in case anyone thinks I pulled that figure out of my hat. The upshot of the above math lesson is that Nigerian cannabis growers, processors and individuals stand to rake in gigantic fortunes, literally the instant that cannabis is legalized in Nigeria. By levying taxes on cannabis cultivation, the Nigerian government ALSO stands to reap fortunes that will very rapidly outpace all income that has EVER accrued from crude oil exports over the entire timespan that has elapsed since crude oil was first discovered in the Niger Delta, till date. Even if you do not partake of cannabis, it is safe to say that EVERYONE aspires to make a good living, and to become wealthy beyond their wildest dreams. Such wealth will transform the economy of the nation OVERNIGHT, and mint a whole new generation of canna-BILLIONAIRES. Legalize cannabis cultivation, processing, consumption and export NOW throughout Nigeria, so that this new era of mega-prosperity can commence without further delay. This concludes today's math lesson. 1 Like 1 Share |

Jakumo:How is he the best political office holder since the 60s ? The last salary he paid was for the month of January 2021. If that is not being useless please tell me what is. |
Re: Why Nigeria Must Legalise Cannabis Cultivation – Akeredolu by Jakumo(m): 9:16pm On Jun 03, 2021 |
chromosomeXY: The entire nation is financially distressed, as is the entire global economy, thanks to the ongoing pandemic. Governor Akerredolu sees a way out of this economic distress, namely the cultivation, processing, and export of cannabis products. This is a multi-billion dollar industry just waiting to be tapped, therefore I urge that you encourage your regional lawmakers to support the Nigerian Cannabis Control Law of 2020, that will legalize medical marijuana, and open the floodgates to this bountiful harvest of cash money that will transform Nigeria literally overnight, for the profoundly better. |
