@ namfav

So because some NGO's decided to take up the case of Amina Lawal and some contestants pulled out of the Pageant in solidarity, justifies the barbaric that followed. R u kidding me?? undecided

The more u make arguments to defend stuff like this, the more U paint Islam as a backward and intolerant religion. I think Islam needs better representation than what U are offering.

let's use common sense here ok, there are people who are being executed in asia who are from nigeria, drug dealers, do people protest in the south? even when the ngo's like amnesty goes against it were there protest when more than 10 nigerians are killed in asia? i've never heard that, but an affair such as amina lawal will cause uproar in the south? does it make sense to you? if you use common sense than you will figure that everyone in nigeria has the right to mind their own business we don't make rules for everyone just as i believe sharia should not apply to southerners, you won't find the north protesting against any practice in the south, we are in no position to do so

Dont mind them.

Recently, amongst 3 people (2 Vietnamese, 1 Igbo man), the Nigerian man was the only drug dealer executed in Vietnam. Are they protesting? undecided

no, i wonder why, even recently a man was executed and some people on the forum said he deserves it and i even think he didn't get a fair trial because his asian girlfriend was set free, since when do people care about people like amina lawal, the daughter of an "almajiri"

firstly, in sabon gari there is no street. each of the area is represented by road.
meanwhile here are popular roads in sabon gari that has link to yoruba settlement; popular igbo road. enugu road, warri road, okonkwo avenue, aba road, onitsha road shows the settlement of the igbos within the sabon gari axis

niger road, it was changed from yoruba which i cant remember
church road, also known as ogbomoso avenue
yoruba road,
emir road was dedicated to the emir of kano by the oba of yoruba to honor the emir of kano because he (the emir) has to pass through that road to pay homage to the oba of yoruba whose palace is also situated on that road every festive season.
new road was formerly named in yoruba but cant remember the name
abeokuta road,
ibadan road,
abedi road,
odutola road,
sani giwa road,
ijebu road,
festin road

from the above you can deduce that most of the settlement in sabon gari are yorubas.
this reminds me, i have the history of sabon gari in hard copy but can not locate where i kept it

Some people are very allergic to the truth and it is sad. When "the Satanic Verses" controversy hit the world, was it a Nigerian or a Nigerian publication? Why were non-Muslims attacked in various northern states? The many times that non-Muslims were murdered in Nigeria over flimsy excuses of threat to Islam in some foreign countries, were they occasioned by those Nigerians that were attacked and the churches that were burnt? Even the recent carnage in those northern states of innocent Nigerians, was it because those non-Muslims and their churches, homes and businesses responsible for anyone losing elections? Especially considering the magnitude of security apparatus deployed to forestall breakdown of law and order before, during and after the elections? The police station that was attacked and burnt down to kill innocent Corpers was it not built with tax-payers money? The time has come for the madness in the north to be acknowledged and anyone who is able to make a post on NL who thinks it was wrong for those poor folks to take precautions should actually be ashamed.

thank u. u hit the nail right on the head

I think it is best u stick to tribal bashing and bigotry. U make more sense then.

@ Namfav
Its either U are totally ignorant of the Amina Lawal issue or U are just being overly disingenous. The group that came to the aid of Amina Lawal is Baobab for women human rights, a group based in Lagos but drawn from educated female MUSLIMS. The lawyer that represented Amina Lawal goes by the name Hauwa Ibrahim and used her knowledge of the sharia law to try and get Amina off the hook.

So please dont make this sound as if a woman was condemned to die by Sharia law in the North and the southerns freaked out.
