Yesterday, we started by highlighting 5 of the best Universities in the UK to study Computer Science and IT, today we continue the list by telling you the remaining 5 best Universities on that list. If you are interested in developing a career in Computer Science and IT, these Universities will provide the ideal platform into a broad range of supporting IT infrastructure at a company, to creating apps or to working in banks and financial services. Find the list below:

1. University of Bristol
University of Bristol offers 13 different courses at undergraduate and Masters levels, most of which can be taken with either a study abroad year or a year in industry. While Bristol doesn’t offer students the chance to specialize in specific areas of computing from the outset, it does offer its computer science course in combination with physics, chemistry, electronics, or innovation.

In addition to the University scoring highly for STEM education, £339m in venture capital funding went to Bristol tech firms in 2020, the third highest amount behind Oxford and London. The city also boasts two tech hubs and is the home of a billion-dollar company.

2. University of Glasgow
When it comes the number of computer science course combinations, University of Glasgow is the clear winner. The Guardian lists 57 variations of the Scottish University’s computer science course, with students able to study it alongside everything from statistics and mathematics to English language or literature, Greek, theology, philosophy, theatre studies and politics.

The University also offers joint degree options for its digital media and information studies course, which falls under the computer science umbrella and provides teaching on database development, artificial intelligence, and information systems throughout the four-year course. There are also software engineering and electronic software engineering courses for those who want to specialize from the outset.

3. University of Birmingham
Like most cities in the UK, the city of Birmingham has two Universities. For this list, the University of Birmingham made the cut as one of the top ten Universities in the UK for Computer Science and IT degrees.

The University offers single-discipline, undergraduate and Master’s degree courses in computer science and joint computer science and artificial intelligence, software engineering and mathematics degrees. Most of these subjects allow students to undertake a year of studying abroad or a year in industry, and foundation years are available for those lacking the necessary entry requirements.


4. Lancaster University
Lancaster University is noted for the flexibility of its degree courses, with many students choosing to take a second or third subject in their first year before specializing on one area in the second and third year. The University has an excellent reputation for research and is one of the N8 group of Northern research Universities.

Lancaster is one of the few UK universities to run a collegiate system which consists of eight undergraduate colleges and one postgraduate college. Over 12,000 students from over 100 countries are currently enrolled and all members of staff are college members and many are actively involved in collegiate life. Lancaster University Computer Science program is accredited by the British Computing Society (BCS) and the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), giving students the knowledge and skills needed to become a computing professional.

5. King’s College London
King’s College London places joint 62nd globally this year for computer science and The University scores particularly well in the research citations per paper indicator, a reflection of the high quality of the research produced by the university.

The University offers undergraduate students the opportunity to study abroad for a year, take an industrial placement or explore more advanced topics, such as robotics. Postgraduates will apply computer science to industrial and commercial settings ranging from engineering to internet systems, web intelligence and data science.
