The Co-chair Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace, Bishop Dr. Sunday Onuoha has advised Security Agents in the South-East to stop harassing innocent youth but handle the question concerning the unknown gunmen.

Bishop Dr. Onuoha who was reacting to reported cases of harassment and intimidation of innocent youth by Security Agents in the zone, reminded that it is an infringement on their fundamental rights if they continuously subject the youth who work so hard to survive in this difficult time to dehumanizing practice which has gone on for so long in the zone unabated.

He noted that their duty in the zone, remains to unmask unknown gunmen, reiterating that their duty should be to sort them out and not provoke the youth through constant harassment and intimidation, emphasising that the youth in the zone cannot be suffering from known and unknown gunmen at the same time.

The 2013 Global Peace Award Winner, 2013, said various reports against Security Agents in the zone ranging from searching of youth, raising of hands, sitting on the floor, frog jump among others, when they did not commit any offence is uncalled for, stressing that they are infringing on the constitutional rights of these youth who deserve to walk about freely.

He advised security agents to employ ways of identifying and handling unknown gunmen whose presence has been felt in the zone, pointing out that the youth who are perturbed by the security challenges in the country deserve to be treated in a manner that reflects that Nigeria is indeed a democratic State and not in a military era where people's fundamental rights are supressed with reckless abandon.

The Cleric who noted that the poor innocent civilians lack the capacity to unmask the said unknown gunmen, called on youth in South-East zone to continue to be law abiding amid provocations by the Security Agents, adding that with the heightened tension in the country, Nigeria has constantly been made vulnerable as further heightening may degenerate into a situation that may be difficult to handle.

They will not hear, simply because they don't have sense and shame.
