You see that street flood as always been like that for years. I will never forget year 2011 during one 7days rainfall like that. One bungalow in that street was almost submerged by flood. The funniest past was that the occupant of the said house used his fridge as canoe. Very funny incident

Your drains are blocked and guess who throws things into the gutters? The citizens. If the drains are cleared today, it will soon be filled with trash

The government needs to do a public awareness campaign on the cause of blocked drains and its relationship to flooding.

I don't know how rosy local government funds are after the state government has taken its own share. Though they do collect taxes, it may not amount to much.

If they had the funds, the clearing of the gutters must be carried out timely to prevent flooding or local neighborhoods should simply be galvanized into taking their safety into their own hands.

Let's stop all these lies about block drainage ? Does Lagos really have a functional well planned drainage system ? No !! What we see are just pits dug by the side of road going no where ..A drainage system must be well planned like a pipe network
Leave that one. Has he ever made any sensible contribution here with his 10kb memory capacity.

This is somewhere around Akowonjo rd, Jimoh bus stop to be precise.

It has been like this since time immemorial yet u say y’all have a working govt??

And I heard alimosho local govt chairman is the best LG chairman in Lagos

How!!!
It's so unfortunate, the water has even contributed to the damage on Akowonjo Rd. And this is a road that was done not so long ago.

Ahaha.. This is my area and that's how I have been rolling since I came to that end. Infact I always curse the agent who got me the apartment during dry season when all seemed cool save for the very bad car-damaging roads from Micom Junction through Fajumobi street to Ponle and adjacent environs.
The last time I got stuck in the traffic that builds up from Sobo B/stop to Vulcanizer B/Stop and I took this Jimoh Street, this ocean on this notorious Jimoh street overwhelmed my poor car and the water forced its way into my car. My wife was so scared as we couldn't explain how that was possible. Took a whole week to get it dried. Mehn, me I can't wait to pick race comot from this environment at the end of my rent sha!!!.

The solution is simple stop building roads with open drainage. Cover the drainage. If possible build the side walks on the drainage. Create few holes by the side of the drainage to allow for water to flow from the road into the drainage. Go to algiers, u won't see open drainage. We make simple things look big

It doesn't work as well my bro/sis as they award contracts to clueless agents. I can boldly tell you that the drainage on Oke Street (which also links Akowonjo road and nearby to Jimoh Street) are covered and the sidewalk is on the drain as you described but somehow, there is still an artificial lake on that same Oke street that never gets drained off until recently when the powers that be in that area were campaigning to be elected. It's also about the same time the long neglected and very bad Fajumobi street also close by received attention and now it's been resurfaced..

Lies....it's not about drainage
The water ways have been sandfilled and sold as lands
This is the main issue
Stop blaming the public

Before blaming those who dump dirty inside gutter confirm if the govt provided garbage bins for the people. both sides have their own blame.

You have a good point. Biggest problem with what you wrote are that drains cost money. Drains take up as much as 60% of the cost of building some roads. Anyway, where there's will, there is success.

oga stop all this ur talk jor, there re budgets for this, so it's not out of place to demand from the government. allow people to call on their government.

U should criticize the govt for erytin dats not going the right way!

U dey ur alimosho mansion yea?
Na human being dey live for all those Flooded axis, are u in a way asking em to sit, watch and clap for the govt??
Cos u jus asked em not to criticize the govt

We criticize the government Always But when it rains most pple in lagos mainland pour dirts in their gutter so it flows, many end up blocking the drainage system. Some even open up their soak away. Is it the government Fault? After street boys play football on thr tarred road, they leave the stone on the Road and the more cars climb it the more it affects the Tar. I have seen where some one removed one of the brick from an interlocked road, when challenge she said she want to use it to Hold something...is that the Government fault when the rest starts pulling off cos they are Hinged to each other? Governments are at fault but u see lagosians have coconut heads

Bro be calming down

Why not put urself in their shoes??]

Build drainage and make LAWMA work DAILY, very simple. If trash cans and trucks are readily available, daily emptied and everywhere is cleaned, people will not be dirty. These same people throwing dirts go outside Nigeria to clean environment and behave themselves.
