Again, Emirates suspends Nigeria flights, extends suspension of South African routes

Only 24 hours after United Arab Emirates relaxed its COVID-19 protocol for Nigeria and some countries, Emirates Airlines announced that it would begin airlifting passengers from Lagos and Abuja from 23rd of June, the airline has suddenly suspended flights from Nigeria.

According to Emirates airline, passenger flights to and from Nigeria (Lagos and Abuja) have been suspended as of June 21 until further notice. Customers traveling to and from Lagos and Abuja will not be accepted for travel, and those who have been to – or connected through – Nigeria in the last 14 days are not permitted to board from any other point to the UAE.

“In line with government’s directives, passenger flights to and from Nigeria (Lagos and Abuja) have been suspended , with effect from 21st June 20121 until further notice

“We regret the inconvenience caused, and affected customers should contact their booking agent or Emirates call center for rebooking, Emirates remains committed to Nigeria, and we look forward to resuming passenger services when conditions allow”, the airline said.

According to Emirates, flights from South Africa to the UAE will remain suspended until July 6, in accordance with government directives restricting travel from South Africa to the UAE. A daily passenger flight will still operate into Johannesburg, however, EK 764 will still be suspended for outbound flights.

The company added that customers who have traveled to or connected through South Africa within the past 14 days will not be allowed on Emirates flights bound for Dubai.

Nigerian passengers were advised to either keep their tickets for future flights or rebook their flights.
