Thank you for those links. I personally made two deductions from your link.

The colony of Lagos were not doing excellently well as there were complaints over cost of running in comparison to income. And the laziness of the locals. Perhaps you missed those reports.

The oil produce from the East was close to three times that from the West.
You are talking totally off point

What has "laziness of the locals" got to do with this thread?
Focus on the context whether or not locals were lazy , promiscuous, superstitious or covered with ringworm is totally irrelevant
So what if there are complaints? Where are there no complaints?
Even in heaven there are complaints

The Colony of Lagos existed for decades not one month There are several reports over decades indicating good revenue and progressive development

The point here is comparison between different parts of Nigeria and the Colony of Lagos was the best performing financially

Can you back up your claim on the oil revenue comparison to the East with a citation?

Before 1900 There were street lights in Lagos, a telephone link to the world etc

Compared to the rest of Nigeria

Lagos was DOING EXCELLENTLY WELL

But like the foolishness on which every igbo falsehood/chest beating is predicted you have nothing to prove it in the article just mere delusion of grandeur that plagued your tribesmen from eternity.

Yes the facts are documented, palm oil at (1913- 1914) was the highest resource in terms of export revenue in Nigeria.

Useless Aboki were fooling themselves that their groundnut was used to fund the oil exploration in the East... which yeye groundnut again? grin

One of the many reasons why we advocate education. Cocoa is not an indigenous crop to Nigeria or Africa. Just like cassava it was brought from South America and only became a significant commercial export in the last 100 years. At any rate the market for cocoa is a relatively new one too. At the tme of this report what was the worldwide production or consuption?
If you had any education you would either know or be able to research this.

If you can read and comprehend then study the report,it is quite self explanatory. The people who produce palm oil are not those who benefit from it the most but those who know what to do with it. You can produce a million tonnes of cotton but when Guccci takes 100 grammes he makes it into a shirt and sells it for $200. That is Lagos

Lagos is a value addition centre it does not have to grow anything. Just the location as the report illustrates is enough.
Have a look at the Customs duties and port revenues.,the fact that there was electricity, telephones etc before 1900. That gives you perspective on how far ahead of the rest Lagos has been.

So do not talk about 0il money which came on in the 1970s
Lagos has been the primary port in Nigeria for ever and it was not developed into a port by Nigeria or to put down other ports. It has been and will remain the principal sea port for the region.

There are examples everywhere of such cities.

Singapore ,London New York etc.

Lagos is what it is becauuse of where it is .So when you start saying give us a viable port in Onitsha I say go and quarrel with God.

Why was Calabar or Port Harcourt not developed as a principal sea port in 1900
Now,if ever you went to any school you would know that Lagos and the East or North as colonial spaces were administered and governed totally separately. There are actually similar reports to thisone for those places soyou can search for them. They are online and even on Nairaland we have debated them.

The point here is about the Port of Lagos. It was thriving long before Nigeria was created in 1914

The report shows the ccounts of theColonial government so we can see how it got its funding nd wether or not it was subsidized or self sustaining
The report iss NOT FOR ILLITERATES

Huh? South South of today was part of the Eastern region, and when did the Western region ever produce palm oil? thought cocoa was always the major cash crop product of the West.

Delta and Edo States were not part of the Eastern region.

There is one point that needs to be made that has not been made

The figures quoted are the VALUE OF EXPORTS

NOT

REVENUE

The Palm oil did NOT belong to to the colonial government in the same way that Crude Oil belongs to the current government .As such receipts from Oil, groundnut or whatever are private receipts and do not reflect in the "REVENUE" column of the report

Such receipts could not possibly have been used to develop crude oil or for government expenditure

Today Dangote exports cement

Is that government revenue?

Palm oil was sold to the Royal Niger Company by locals who exported it . That company is still around today

Midwest and some some states like Ondo were also top palm oil producers then.

It can be argued that the Eastern region produced more, but Delta, Ondo and Edo were very rich in palm oil.

Use your article. I mean, you posted the links yourself.

Lagos was DOING EXCELLENTLY WELL

Okay then. I'm appalled that you are bragging with something your ancestors were not really keen on. Lagos was doing excellently when the locals are not willing to work? Who were bringing in the revenue then? Shock me o

I want to believe that you can read and comprehend

The question once again was

Can you back up your claim that that the East produced 3 times as much palm oil as the West?

All that nonsense you are bringing up is irrelevant and tangential

Though it might apply to you
Go to farm and work manually to prove you are not "lazy"

Use your article links or just offer up an excuse that you really didn't pay attention to the figures. Why should the articles you brought up yourself scare you so?

The stats did not indicate the region that earns more from palm oil. The old mid-western region was the largest producer of palm oil then.
