God why you put me for this kind country,

90 servers to register 100 million people, AWS cloud service would solve this for way less than 10million naira.

but is it advisable to store governemt information with a private company? we are talking about a huge privacy risk.

If they don't chop the money. storing that info within our borders is more acceptable

I will suggest the government looks into more efficient ways to store data and also the use of servers. They can explore new technologies in clouding which could present an opportunity for capex and opex savings..

Every Sector is just coming with an avenue to get it's own National cake.
Amazon Web Service
Google Cloud Service
Alibaba Cloud Service
You can't spend 20 million Naira on any of these services to get the job done.

And its more safe to keep my data on cloud. I can trust Nigerians with my information.

I think the budget is too much if it's just NIM data. Is it not pictures, biometrics, and text. I don't know our data policy but it would be highly irresponsible for a Govt to let their data reside outside their country. Some countries don't even allow social media companies to let their citizens' data stay outside their territories.

Why buy and manage your own servers which is way more EXPENSIVE?
NIN Data can be securely and safely stored on GCP - Google Cloud server, AWS - Amazon Web service, Microsoft Azure.

Even Facebook still date uses AKAMAI CDN to deliver photos and videos to the nearest location.
This is amongst other platform.
FASTLY, CLOUDFLARE and the rest as CDN.

As big as NETFLIX. They made billions of dollars in profits year in out. NETFLIX is hosted on AMAZON.
AMAZON can host Facebook 4 times with enough space.

Nigeria needing N25Bn which is $60m for storage servers is baseless.
Enterprise cloud services can do this way cheaper. FG should contact me to assist in this regard.

Lol. IMO national identity data should not be Hosted on foreign severs. Nigeria should have its own servers.

AWS or Azure Server can do this efficiently for less than 100 million Naira, but due to National security breach.... It can't be hosted on foreign servers

But 25 billion Naira for servers is outrightly outrageous....

We need to restructure Nigeria. Imagine, in a restructured Nigeria, where the federating units are in control of their economy, so if the south east wants to give identity numbers to all the southeast indigenes, the money would come from the south east's pocket. And because the money is coming from its pocket, it would be mindful of how the money is spent. Corruption would be minimal.

As Nigeria is now, everyone is just looking for his own share of the national cake.

RESTRUCTURE NIGERIA!!!

Of course, they would need on premise Data Centers, which I believe Galaxy Backbone could give, but no, they want their own data center. I just hope the centers would have DR backed up 100% of data integrity.

It would be against National Security if we host our data in a foreign cloud, thou Microsoft Azure Firewall boasts of availability at least 99.95% of the time, when deployed within a single Availability Zone; meaning you're 99% sure of your data in the cloud. AWS am not sure. Even Pentagon does businesses with these cloud providers, you're sure of every kind of protection from DR, to firewalls and so much more.

Anyway, Some people are about to swim in largesse and give testimony lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

N25 Billion might just be too much; but what do i know.

You are right. I also don't think Microsoft will have geolocated server in Nigeria so it will be wrong to host Nigerian citizen data outside of Nigeria.

But irrespective - ₦25 billion is too much to host 70 servers. Are the servers gold plated?

Most server infrastructure have a 10-12yr shelf life before they go out of support. With 1- 2 billion naira you will build the right data centre infrastructure with adequate database....compute...storage licences and security even with small change left over

25 billion is too much!

what is AWS or Azure doing there? most fortune 500 companies don't even utilize physical servers! why are our people not thinking as fast as the world is thinking? if not for the corruption in high places where people only think about their pockets rather than the long and short term effect of certain key decisions. how much to store 1000 exabyte sef? and i do not think our National ID data will be as much as that.

And yes it might be undermining our soverign integrity if we do store our national data with foreign cloud service providers, but the physical servers will go out of support in less than 10 years, so encryption and cryptography is the way to go in that regard.

and yes 25billion is outrageous

as matter of national security you don't expect a sovereign nation to make use of public servers situated in another country... If it were possible it would be preferred that The country builds its own servers

Well, this is different. I understand the need to own our own data center owing to the issue being of national security but N1B could get the job done and even get some change from it. I would expect Pantami and his gang of extremists to study how Pentagon uses some of these cloud hosting providers, guarantees of data security and the likes but no, a country with zero maintenance culture, whose satellite has gone into extinction is pushing for over $60 million storage servers when only less than 15% of the country's citizen is above poverty level. Buhari's regime is about to pull the biggest heist in the history of the country.
