The Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria, Femi Gbajabiamila, has said that it is necessary to enact laws to limit the excessive use of social media which is harmful in the country.

Gbajabiamila said the legislature had long considered taking appropriate measures to enact such laws to protect the public from the effects of these institutions but had been reluctant to do so due to public outcry.

Speaker who acknowledged the progress made by the media, also said that they have become a source of harm from some users in an inappropriate way.
