In case you dumbos don't know or too illiterate to read the judge released him not because he was innocent of the crime (he actually confessed to it) but because he had made a deal with the then District Attorney that there won't be any criminal suit brought against him if he co-operated during the civil trial that was brought by one of his victims.
He lost the civil case because he co-operated and should have been left alone. The DA, however, wanted to get a big criminal trial win to boost his own reputation and proceeded to make criminal charges.

I live in the UK and I have never in my life seen a confession made to the media immediately after an arrest. The police usually keep everything under wrap why they investigate the crime scene. The suspect is read their Miranda rights in the quote below ....

There was never any evidence against him. This jury people just decide cases based on emotions, I don't know where the US got this there useless trial by jury method. Many innocent people are languishing in jail just because members of jury that know nothing about the law decided to find them guilty based on emotional sentiments.

God you are so off point it's ridiculous. He was only released because a DA promised not to prosecute him thereby making him admit all the crimes he committed (drugging and raping young women). A new DA overlooked the promise of the former DA and prosecuted him using all the things he said he did and got a conviction.

The supreme court then ruled that he shouldn't have been prosecuted because the promise of the former DA is still binding and that's how he got out.

Bill Cosby is a piece of shit and everyone now knows. He may have won the legal battle but he certainly lost the moral and to an extent financial battle.

Essentially Cosby is getting off for this reason...

In brief, Cosby was being tried for a rape case in 2005. The case was initially prosecuted as a civil case...as the evidence for a criminal case was not enough as deemed by the prosecution. Cosby reached a deal with the prosecutors not to use any evidence from this civil case in any subsequent criminal prosecution...and gave some evidence where he in essence admitted to drugging the victim...

Fast forward nearly a decade later, and in the light of the me too debacle, a lot of women coming out with allegations about being drugged and raped by Cosby and others...the case was reopened...and Cosby was prosecuted criminally for the 2005 rape (the others happened a long time ago, and as the statute of limitaitons had been passed, that was it for those)..and in the course of the trial, evidence he gave from the 2005 civil trial was used in the criminal trial, violating the agreement...and crucially violating Cosby's right to self incrimination under the fifth amendment.

That was what was at play in the decision by the state supreme court to acquit....the violation of the fifth amemdment, and the violation of the agreement not to use the evidence in the civl trial in a new trial.

Cosby was obviously guilty of the crimes he committed. But the issue is guilt in the American system is determined in large part by the availability of evidence, and a big issue with rape crimes is that if the perp is sufficiently powerful, reporting such cases are very very difficult. Also the shame around rape makes reporting such cases difficult. Then evidence of rape must be collected in a hospital quickly..or it gets lost , and most rape victims are not in the mood to go to hospital like that, unless badly hurt.(One rape case in Kaduna collapsed because the victim went to hospital ten days after the rape...a lot of evidence washed away by baths and so on. A serial rapist in the US was not caught until a long time after because he forced his victims to wash themselves thoroughly after the deed...at gunpoint)

Cosby in essence admitted in a civil case brought by one of his victims in 2005 that he drugged and raped her.

The issue was that it was a civil case...where the standards are different from a criminal case. And for Cosby to make this admisison, he in essence worked out a deal with the prosecutors; I admit to rape in this case , in return for not using my admission to prosecute me in any subsequent criminal case.

And thus the case was settled for money, and that was that...till 2015 when in the wake of Me too, and with more women coming forward to allege abuse by Cosby, (although that happened long before the 2005 case)....the prosecutors opened a criminal case against Cosby and violated the agreement by using the admission from the 2005 civil case...TO get Cosby successfully convicted of rape.(Also the 2005 case was the only one where the statues of limitation had not run out..compared to all the other allegations)

The Supreme court of Pennsylvania, the state where the case was tried, has overturned the conviction based on the agreement being violated.

It does not mean Cosby did not rape that woman in 2005, he did(as he admitted to it afterall)...but the way the conviction in the criminal case was gottten was so wrong for the Supreme court to overturn it.
