This is really not meant to create an upheaval as it has done. It was created to educate people on how to write Igbo. It is even not much about pronunciation, but writing. Pronunciation is abstract, while writings can be seen. It was not created to force others to call us Igbos. They can call and write Igbo the way the want, especially if they feel they prefer Ibo more than Igbo. The only issue is that, I (Poster) want to make more people to write Igbo, as Igbo. To do this, I will call their ethnic groups names wrongly. If they complain, then I will bring their mistakes to their notice. If they don't care about their ethnic group's name being called wrongly, then there will be no problem. We will keep calling them wrongly. I really don't think that should be a problem @Justcash My dear Igbo brother, like i stated before, educate your people first. If they pronounce Ibo, people are bound to spell it that way. Most people are simply ignorant of the fact. Never mind those NLanders who are just taunting you for the fun of it. I have noted the correct spelling and will surely ask my friends why they call themselves Ibos.Anyway some of us are less bothered about these tribal issues in the face of weightier problems that are inimical to our efforts to move our nation forward and live better lives. Meanwhile have fun with those pulling your legs. |

Justcash: Yea why did you? Esp since your Igbo brothers recognises themselves as Igbo/Ibo/Heebo/Ebo/Eboh? Fear the Yorubas not. We come in peace. |

delpee: This is meant to educate people on how to spell and call Igbo. Are you really serious that I have to start with "My People?" Are we not Nigerians? Who are my people? So, I have to descend to my ethnic group first before talking to fellow Nigerians? Your View is hypocritical. If an Igbo person that did not grow up in Igbo land and does not know how to pronounce Igbo reads this thread, he or she will take note, just as a Hausa, Yoruba, every Nigerian should. There are actually Yoruba people that grew abroad, and pronounce Yoruba as "Yurrrba". If you find it befitting to teach them how to pronounce and write it, is it wrong? By the way, I have the right to post my view in a forum like Nairaland. Anyone that does not like my view can vamooose, or nag on it as they deem fit. |

If you go for an exam; and they tell you to spell English, If you spell, E-N-L-I-S-H or E-N-G-R-I-S-H, you will fail. If you spell, E-N-G-L-I-S-H, you will pass. If they tell you to spell Igbo, If you spell, I-B-O, you will fail. If you spell, I-G-B-O, you will pass. |

@Justcash MY OBSERVATION: I think there is another issue hiding under the Igbo/Ibo complain, i seriously think you have taken it too far. It has moved from a simple correction to tribal bashing and personaly mud slinging, why? I might be wrong My wife is Igbo for example, and i regard her village in Abia state as my second home, i go there when i have my annually leave, i dont see any Igbo person, i see a fellow human being, Igbo, youruba, hausa french german whatever, we are all the same, all from the same Adam, so whats the fracas all about. I also think you are being taunted by some people, deep inside everyone they have accepted the corrections, but i think the way you went about everything is wrong. I am Yoruba, if anyone calls me Yoruba, i might correct and if they persist, it does not remove a kobo from my purse, especially as ibo/Yoruba does not conote another meaning. Please lets rest and discuss how to move NIGERIA forward. Always remember there are only 2 tribes in Nigeria and 2 race in the world: the good and the bad people. |
