INTRODUCTION TO SNAIL FARMING

Snail farming (heliciculture) is the practice of keeping and rearing edible land snail for personal and/or commercial purposes.

There are a number of edible land snails but not all of them are suitable for rearing and readily marketable. Among the edible land snails, we are placing our focus on the _Archachatina maginata_ and two of its varieties i.e _oven_ and _suturalis._ Snail farmers focus on this species of snail for its meat. However, people rear Achatina species to for their slime as the produce relatively more slime than Archachatina species but they have less meat. To be continued...
