You can't get a certificate without going through the process and besides its usually messy and atimes the judge waste time on the process cus they usually encourage reconciliation. But if you must know,divorce is huge cash o... You would need 1. 5m minimum for the process if you have a good lawyer & process would be out of Lagos court else bruh you fit use years on the process. Its much easier wen both of una don agree to separate. ...no wait for the registrar. Meet a lawyer at the customary court in your area and file the stuff....since the lady don agree, they will cal her to sign n she collect her own diverice certificate.
Forget all those 6 months or three months stuff, n.a. tactics to see if una go reconciled but like I said, if una two don tire, the process will be quicker.
With say 50- 100k you can get it done!

Sorry about what you are going through. They don’t get better and you’ll definitely get worn out mentally. I must warn that divorce isn’t instant in Nigeria (it isn’t instant anywhere sef). So you guys would need to separate for a while. One of the disadvantage of being legally married is you can’t walk out anytime you wish and become single again.

A Magistrate does not have the powers (jurisdiction) to handle divorce proceedings in Nigeria. That is the duty of the High Court.

Your write up is confusing. You are using Magistrate and Judge at the same time. And the use of the word signing divorce papers suggests you are not within the country. Please explain better.

However, can you get a decree Nisi order within six months if you within the country? Yes. It is not impossible. But then, it depends on whether or not the proceedings will be contentious.

If you are before a judge, that presupposes you have already engaged a lawyer. So why don't you work things out with your lawyer?

Sorry for the psychological distress matrimonial torpedoes are causing you. There is no rule anywhere that says you must marry.

You never really know people until you know them. And you only know people in marriage, when you wake up to them and their bad habit each night when the wig, make-up and padded pieces of stuff are off, and there is nothing to hide.

That is not to say that happy married life does not happen. It does.

She does not have the power or jurisdiction to dissolve a marriage (conduct divorce proceedings). That is the duty of a Judge of the High Court of a State.

I, perhaps, agree with you that she is surreptitiously trying to settle you guys. If she is a certified/licensed mediator, by all means, she can attempt to mediate.

Divorce is always a last resort when all has failed, and the marriage has broken down irretrievably. If you are certain that the marriage has broken down irretrievably, please speak to a lawyer.

This isn't true for all cases sir, if both parties agree peacefully and their isn't issue of properties, you won't spend much abeg.. Those divorcing in magistrate court have 1.5m..if i hear!!
