BENIN – THE crisis rocking the Edo State-owned Ambrose Alli University, AAU, Ekpoma, following the removal of the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Sam Uniamikogho, by Governor Adams Oshiomhole, continued weekend, as a faction of the Academic  Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, faulted the claim by the Chairman of the union in the university, Dr S.  Ighalo, that the union disagreed with the decision of the governor and the subsequent appointment of Prof. C. Agbebaku as Acting  Vice-Chancellor.

It will be recalled that the Dr Ighalo-led ASUU had passed a resolution, describing the action of the governor as illegal and called for the re-instatement of Prof. Uniamikogho as Vice-Chancellor.

But a faction of ASUU in a counter resolution by Prof. Don Akhilomen, Dr. J. Aigbodioh and Mr. A. Agbtor,  described the resolution as misleading, saying that “the congress of ASUU did not at any time demand  the re-instatement of the former Vice-Chancellor as alleged in the purported resolution.

“The issue of giving a one-week ultimatum to the Visitor (Oshiomhole) to reverse his decision on sack the former VC was neither raised nor discussed at the congress meeting.

“It is misleading to suggest that congress resolved not to work with the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Agbebaku, as published in the purported resolutions. The general public should disregard the information disseminated by the ASUU cabal headed by Dr Ighalo in the ASUU bulletin and the NTA Iruekpen news.”
