A policy group in Nigeria says Daily Post, a blog in Nigeria should be sanctioned for its persistent poor reporting and outright falsehood.

The Media Advocates Monitor, MAM, said blogs like Daily Post have failed to uphold the tenets of journalism and have repeatedly exposed their readers to fake news.

The director of the group, James Akor, says it is worrying that those who are supposed to be the fourth estate of the realm have failed in their duties.

"Daily Post are one of the many blogs that have failed to uphold the ethics of journalism as they constantly publish fake or misleading news.

Akor recounted a number of news by the Daily Post including a recent one that sparked a response from Olumide Akpata, President, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

He noted that not only was the headline completely misleading but the report was poorly written. He added that, they claimed that it was the VP telling President Buhari to crush Nnamdi Kanu, Sunday Igboho and others with specifying that it was the NBA VP.

"Many thought they were referring to VP Osinbajo until they read the article. They prey on the ignorance of their readers. They know many people don't go beyond the headline and so therefore they insert falsehood which their readers react to.

The group urged readers to find out the truth for themselves while calling for them to boycott news websites or blogs that major in falsehood and fake news.

There are many fake papers and journalists that need to be sanctioned for their fake and mischievous manner in carrying news just to catch the readers eyes
