CHECK MY THREADS IF YOU WWNT TO LEWRN HOW TO WORK FROM HOME AND MAKE A DECENT LIVING FROM IT.

Let's reason together on this.

He needs to be involved with businesses that requires less moving around and more of supervision.

He needs to be doing businesses that gives daily returns

He needs to work with the young and willing and get returns in a supervisory model

He needs to do a business that doesn't require excessive movement, doesn't deteriorate without capital funds, yet accrue interest

There are different businesses that fits the profile

Let's explore a few ideas

1. Wholesale distributorship for bottle drinks, bottled water combined with whole sale egg sales as Ibadan is connected with many large poultry. The customers for one commodity will attract more customers to buy the other commodity. With 2 Million rentage of shop and stocking can begin with these two products

2. Having a mini convenience store. With around 500-850 for rentage depending on location and the rest for stocking, a neighborhood mini Mart can be setup conveniently with this amount.

3. Sales of nylon wholesale. Buying from factories and selling to retailers is an excellent business that even 500,000 Naira can coneniently setup. It also yields daily returns

4. Transportation. 2.5 Million can setup two to four buses or cars depending on quality and handed to three drivers while you expect daily or weekly returns depending on your arrangement.

5. Saw Mill

6. Sales of Building Materials

7. Haulage Business

8. Business centre

9. Multiple POS business hubs

With 500,000 he can start with POs centers based on demand and Chairs and canopy rentals also based on demand.

You can also look at livestock breeding. E.g piggery, goats, e.t.c

Tell him to buy 2 big containers and locate them close to a market. Mobile sellers selling different things in the market, some with wheelbarrows, who don't have stores will be parking their wares there at N200 everyday. With those 2 containers, you'll get up to 40 persons parking their goods there for safety. Secondly, he can buy a land 1.5m or 2m and sell it 3.5m after 8 months. And it continues like that..

This retail business is the only thing I see here but it must be for a non-perishable commodity

Not a good idea for someone of that age who has never done business before.

If he wants to avoid being cheated in this business then he needs to be ready to do stock taking of all the items in the store at least once every 2 weeks

This business requires a lot of leg work because he needs to get customers then try and pull them away from their current suppliers

Op if you want the old gentleman to develop high blood pressue in the next 6 months then invest in this business, if not then avoid it by all means

If he invests in this business they will cheat him since he knows nothing about the different kinds of wood. They will justy be giving him rubbish stories about how business is not going well meanwhile they will be diverting the sales proceeds to another account

This business also requires some level of experience and energy which I'm not sure a 65 year old retiree has

Sankabson, I beg you in the name of whatever you worship do not invest in haulage business. That business requires strong hand and 100% monitoring otherwise your drivers will frustrate you.
Those guys have plenty of stories - If tyre did not burst hydraulic hose will burst. If VIO did not catch them it will be FRSC and if it's not that then they will tell you that the truck broke down in the middle of a thick forest.

Some will use your truck to be doing private business, the money will be going into their pocket while the wear and tear on the truck and other expenses will be on your head!

In fact if you put your money in this business as a passive investor just know that you have set fire to your money!

Na who dey still invest money for business centre these days?

Investing and running a POS business requires someone who is young and tech savvy so he can quickly understand the latest trends.

Also be aware that there are a lot of scams in the POS business space and a 65year old man may not quickly catch on when he is being scammed.
kudos to you, you analyzed this exactly the same way I would have, we way they business line we know wetin our eye they see especially transportation business, its really not easy to run any business in Nigeria but God is our strength.... Baba doesn't need all this stress biko.

1. Anywhere in the world food will always sell and it is also a forward thinking job.
You can ever go wrong if you take charge of your sales and you don’t sell on credit.
You can have a sales boy/girl but don’t go to bed.
Secure a good location and you are good to go.

2. Livestock farming: Goats, Rams, Cows, Chicken. Since you live in Ibadan there are Govt. approved farm camps in Akufo, Ologuneru axis, Ojoo / Iwo road axis, Apete, Akinyele-Oyo axis

3. You can open frozen food shop. Source turkey from Cotonu

Note- Operate POS by the side.

In Nigeria, any business the old man starts with 3.5m will definitely go bankrupt within 6 months.

People working for him will bankrupt him.

Why Nairalander always ask this kind of questions without giving more details.
Let me start with.
What is his passion
What is his hobby
What is his skills
What is his experience
Then we can pick from the universal subset to direct him which business to go for.
What of if I tell you go and buy 6 Keke and put for challenge to odina or ojoba. And be making 18,000 daily
What of if I tell you to buy 3micra and use as taxi and be making 12kdaily
What if I tell you to buy India tractor and hire out at 10k everyday
What of I tell him to open mini bakery and sell every evening at orita
What of using just 1.5 million to open pig farm and the 10 Gilt gave birth to 5 each you have 50 x 3 = 150 piglet in a year. Note some pig give birth to 14 at once. What of if I tell him to put 3mlm into a bank account that pays 5% monthly in Nigeria.
What of if he bought 50 wheel barrow and make 50 uniform and hire it out daily and make 10,000 daily.
What getting a water tanker more biz during g dry season.
You can ask me more
