It is no news that there is an advancement in assisted reproductive techniques. This procedure is seen as the “safe haven” for thousands of childless couples. But at the same time, the credibility of this procedure has always been questioned.
When the topic of In-vitro fertilization comes up, most questions people ask is if the babies would be as healing as a naturally conceived one.
Nature chose the Fallopian tubes to be the venue of fertilization of the eggs by the sperm but surprisingly, it is the same for IVF process. There is absolutely no difference between natural babies and IVF babies. But a fact is to be established that IVF babies health can not be compared to natural babies.
Research has it that they are at a higher risk of health problems. Complications like premature birth, low birth weight, neonatal deaths etc. It also has been recognized that the risk of congenital birth defects and neurological disorders like autism, learning disabilities, etc is slightly higher in IVF children.
We can not say for sure that the procedure is responsible for the elevated risk of unhealthy IVF babies. Millions of babies have been conceived through this procedure and a majority of them are healthy. This is re assuring for people seeking to start a family using the technique. There are also improved protocols that are been carried out to reduce the risk of unhealthy IVF babies.
