Kanye West broke down into tears at his new album launch after playing a new song about the breakdown of his marriage to Kim Kardashian.

The Sun reports that his latest track Welcome to my Life includes lyrics surrounding his life over the last two years, including his divorce, Twitter meltdown and failed bid to become US President.

In the song, the 44-year-old likens his and Kim’s marital home in Calabasas, LA, to prison, rapping: “Tell the assassins I escaped from Calabasas.”

Speaking to The Sun, a source at the listening party in Las Vegas, said: “It’s a very deep, sad song about Kanye, with him reflecting on his marriage with Kim.

"He talks about the kids and mentions her taking everything. After he played this song he paused for like, two minutes, and cried. It was really sombre.”

Kanye held the listening event at the US city’s ChurchLV for Christians, debuting his tenth album Donda, which is named after his late mother and which is expected to be released on Friday.

Select people were sent invites just before the event on Sunday and were made to put their phones in pouches so they could not record any songs.

The album is also set to feature snippets from Kanye's mum, who died at the age of 58 in 2007.

The singer has previously spoken about his "deep depression" following her death.

It marks the first album Kanye has released since his split from his reality star wife Kim, in February.

Kim filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences” after being married for seven years.

The former couple share the custody of their four children together - North, eight, Chicago, three, and sons Saint, five, and Psalm, two.

In July 2020, Kanye announced on Twitter he was running for that year’s US presidential election.

Days later, during his first rally, he broke down in tears saying he was almost aborted and he and Kim almost “killed” their daughter North whilst pregnant, also via termination.

He is now reportedly dating model Irina Shayk, though neither party have confirmed the relationship.
