As the clock winds down to the 2023 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) will be hoping to take over power in Abia State. To achieve, that, they would need one of these four politicians.

In February, the APC targeted to register one million members in the state, during the registration and revalidation exercise of the party. The goal, target or reason for that is the heart of Abia, the seat of power in Umuahia.

With recent additions of Rt. Hon. Uzor Azubuike, Obinna Oriaku, Chief Chibuike Nwaokeukwu (SAN), Hon Blessing Nwagba, Hon Nwaji and other former members of the PDP, the party's hopes to clinch victory in 2023 looks bright.

Here are four members of the APC who are strong enough to cause an upset in the 2023 gubernatorial elections in Abia State. This list, however, is in no particular order.

1. Alex Otti

Dr Alex Otti is a former Group Managing Director of Diamond Bank Plc. He was the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in 2015 and 2019 where he lost, on both occasions, to Okezie Ikpeazu.

In August 2020, Dr Otti said he was joining the APC for the good of his people, saying, "we must always put the people first".

Otti promises to tackle insecurity, decayed infrastructure, unemployment, unpaid salaries and pensions, endemic poverty among other challenges when he is elected governor.

2. Uche Ogah

Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah is the current Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development. The oil magnate and entrepreneur is also the President and CEO of Masters Energy Group, a business corporation with over 15 subsidiaries.

Ogah joined the APC in 2017 and in 2019, he contested to become the governor of Abia State, losing to the incumbent governor, Okezie Ikpeazu.

Ogah who enjoys the support of many youths and others who have benefitted from his philanthropy, has never hidden his desire to industrialise the state. That desire could make him try again in 2023.

3. Anyim Nyerere

Chief Anyim Chinyere Nyerere is currently the Executive Commissioner representing South-East geoplitical zone at the National Pension Commission (PENCOM).

The Obingwa-born has been in politics since 2007 when he first ran for the Senate to represent Abia South Senatorial District.

A member of the APC Merger Committee, and a former National Vice-Chairman of the APC, Nyerere contested to become the governor of Abia State in 2015, but lost.
