On 18th July 2018, the Government of Nigeria with much pomp and pageantry launched Nigeria Air.

The Nigerian delegation led by the Honourable Minister for Aviation Hadi Sirika stated the choice of Farnborough for the unveiling:

"@FIAFarnborough is one of the biggest Airshows in the world, where decision makers and industry experts gather every two years to do business. The new National Carrier will bring Nigeria closer to the world"

In his statement the minister: "This is an important day for Nigeria. Largest economy in Africa, largest population, GDP of around half a billion dollars, and the only true aviation player in West and Central Africa. Nigeria has unfortunately not been a serious player in Aviation for a long time. We used to be a dominant player, through Nigeria Airways, but sadly not anymore. The Nigerian Government will not own more than 5% (maximum) of the new National Carrier. Government will not be involved in running it or deciding who runs it.

Nigerians reacted with much excitement as we were finally going to have a National carrier since Nigerian Airways closed in 2003 resulting in jobs for many professionals in the aviation industry.

However exactly three months later on the 19th of September 2018, the minister posted on twitter

"I regret to announce that the Federal Executive Council has taken the tough decision to suspend the National Carrier Project in the interim. All commitments due will be honoured. We thank the public for the support as always".. stating no reasons.

Three years later and the project remains suspended in the interim. Did Nigeria spend N1.2 Billion Naira on just a logo and powerpoint slides? Are there plans to resume the project or it is dead?
