Post-election violence: OPC threatens reprisal attack

LAGOS – Oodua peoples Congress, OPC, yesterday, urged the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari rtd., to back down in his plan to challenge the last presidential poll.

OPC argued that doing so would be like insulting the memory of those killed in the post-election crisis.

At a briefing its leader and founder, Dr. Frederick Fasehun in Lagos, the group condemned the killing of innocent Nigerians, especially National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, members and insisted that the Federal Government must adequately compensate their families.

He said the N5 million given to each family of the deceased was not enough to contend with the loss of their loved ones.

Sending a strong warning to those behind the post-election violence in parts of the North not to repeat it, Fasehun said such crisis could be met with reprisal.

He said: “It took a great deal of maturity for southern leaders and organisations like the OPC to resist the intent pressure to answer the violence in the north with collateral reprisals.”

Explaining the sacrifice made by some leaders in the south to prevent a reprisal attack,

On Buhari’s appeal, Fasehun said: “Any court case by Buhari at this time will be insensitive and will only overheat the country. This insensitivity is further stretched by challenging the results of 20 states in which the CPC lost, all in the South-South, South-West, North-Central and South-East. It is significant that General Buhari’s own coordinators in the South-East have vilified him for contesting the result in their zone, saying they lost fair and square.

“While Buhari cannot be denied his right to seek redress, he should approach the courts only if he is ready to comply with the following conditions.

In line with due process and in the spirit of coming to equity with clean hands, Buhari and CPC must permit scrutiny of the incident of millions of under-aged voters rampant in those parts of the country where he and his party scored sizeable votes.

Personally I do not think there should be any reprisal attacks at this stage(hoping there wont be a recurrence),let Buhari be gloating, playing politics and spitting on the graves of the murdered,we'll see what dividends he'll reap from that.

BTW,has his louth-mouthed fraud of a cleric said anything in condemnation of the killings yet?

He was visibly and irritatingly vocal during the campaigns, why is he so quiet all of a sudden?
