I think it's utter bullocks to compare a country's GDP (total monetary value of goods and services within a country) with a company's value. That's basically comparing one economic instrument in a nation against the total value of a company, i.e. it's total assets, that's why you won't find economists doing this, instead, you'll find businessmen making these illogical comparisons.

All the oil deposits, minerals and resources like Gold, Iron ore, Bitumen, Timber in each country were left out, so it doesn't really depict the total value of a country against the companies. Nigeria for instance would worth way more than Apple if the basis for comparison were same.
