Yes, we have 'some' outstanding individuals in the sport....but at the end of the day, we don't have enough of them to produce consistent results and we don't have enough to replace them when they retire.

Somehow, we need basketball missionaries, who would spread the basketball message across this country, so that we can have a winning team from the newly created mass of talent grown.

Honestly some individuals are doing so. I remember one Olympian basketballer that started something of that sort in Enugu. Unfortunately, starting is not the problem but sustainability. And for a sports that is still a niche field in Nigeria, without government input, it might take longer to take root.

That's the problem...and it is the same thing for most sports, bar football. (Even athletics has the same issue).

Sometimes, a good idea would be to do what the Chinese do...set up sport boarding schools, and train up the next generation of sportsmen and women in various sports...by force (Hey you, you want to be a footballer...no, you are going to the boxing school in Ibadan to train as a light heavyweight boxer. You...you want to play football...no, you are going to the Mambilla camp to train as a long distance runner...and so on)

Lol you might end up getting bunch of machines with no love for the sports. China has more population than all countries, they can spare more than any in building sports soldiers. I prefer creating something using the interest the individuals already have for those particular sports.

As of today in Nigeria, there are no sports without a measurable number of persons interested in them. Even ice skating, we have people that have represented us on them. Capitalise on those with the interest already and you will get REAL Sportsmen.

In Germany there are sports clubs everywhere with basketball sections, and good coaches, for everyone. And that is not as bad as the USA where basketball is popular everywhere from the village to the city.

In Nigeria, outside some big cities, there are zero basketball courts. In the cities with courts...relatively few people play. Our league is limited, and we rely too much on Nigerians born abroad, who in most instances are not the best we have (and the best Nigerians are either playing for the US, or being obstructed by the US from playing for us...see what happened with the women's team now)

This means we don't have what I call a critical mass of talent...from which we can select enough talented players from which our final team would come. Unlike football where everyone, even in some remote village plays...meaning we have far more in terms of talent.

Same argument goes for the other sports we take part in. And this is just part one of a bigger argument why we cannot win.

I am arguing, ultimately, that we need more talented players...and that's where creating a critical mass of talent by popularizing basketball across the country could help.(one of my cousins loves playing basketball because someone introduced him to the game

It is part of a much larger argument that will eventually include things like facilities, resources, research, age grade competitions etc.

You just typed long nonsense. You concluded that Nigeria will lose because it is GERMANY. Australia and Nigeria are the two teams that are more likely to qualify from that group based on current form and what Basketball professionals are pitching. According to Men's Olympic power ranking, Nigeria is ranked 4th while Germany is ranked 11. In FIBA, Nigeria is ranked 22nd and Germany is ranked 17, but you've concluded that Germany will win.
