The myth that girls from the Northern part of Naija are better behaved than their Southern counterparts was very vehemently debunked today by my business associate who is a Northerner. His words "Northern girls are very useless. Only 10% are truly good". Sure he was generalising and talking out of the pain he had experienced but I could help but be surprised at his vehemence. When I questioned him closely he divulged some details of what he experienced and what some of his other friends Northerners themselves have experienced. His story: He dated a girl for 5 years during which he fully made his intention for marriage known to her. Her response was no need to rush. Only for him to hear not from her that she was going to be married to someone else. She eventually owned up at the critical stage when it was too late to reverse the course of events. He said he was too shocked to speak. His second relationship was with a double dating girl who was also dating his friend. He also tells of a friend who ended up smooching a married NYSC lady who was pestering him for sex and another who is 'chopping' a girl on the side even though she is in a relationship. All of the people involved in this are Northerners. What I want to bring out from this is that promiscuous behaviour is not culture or tribe based. Everywhere the grass looks greener on the other side. My friend even said that he had the impression that southern girls are even more homey than northern girls eg That a northern girl will not wash her husbands clothes while a southern girl would (IDK it's his impression!). didnt someone in sexuality start a long thread about how he was bleeping adamawa girls, so what exactly is the surprise element here. northern nigeria has very strict attitudes about morals and sexuality due to the Islamic culture, so girls arent encouraged to be promiscious. That's the long and short of it, and let's not get into arguments about whatever. however, that doesnt mean there are none who are. even in the west, muslim girls from conservative homes have gotten into serious trouble for not toeing the line. poster, dont malign the whole region because your friend met up with girls who matched his player lifestyle. as for the first one, well, it was painful no doubt, but i suppose it just wasnt meant to be. |
