Cds Is An Essential Part Of Your Service- Ayibiowu by Jimsonjaat96(m): 12:33am On Aug 08, 2021
The Assistant Director, Community Development Service and Special Projects, Mr Felix Ayibiowu has told the 2021 Batch B stream I Corps members that the community development service is an essential part of their service year which must never be trivialized.

He told them to be dutiful and act with integrity while undertaking their CDS which is designed to help corps members leave lasting legacies in the communities they are assigned to.

Mr Ayibiowu made this known during the CDS lectures at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Friday.

He explained that to effectively carry out a CDS project, Corps members should first identify the needs of host communities before embarking on the execution of any project and must also obtain the approval of the State Coordinator to carry out such projects.

Speaking on the rudiments of CDS and the requirements for the execution of projects, Mr Ayibiowu warned against usage of personal money/allowances or grants for the projects but he urged them to bring their mobilisation skill to the fore by mobilising and engaging the people of their host community in the execution of the project.

He stressed on the importance of embarking on a project which according to him is a prove of effective and committed service. He also said it is the true spirit of selfless service and a way of impacting the people positively.

“All Corps members must participate in the Community Development service in order to enhance productivity and improve society.

He added that Corps members can carry out the project only if they belong to a CDS group and the CDS group varies from different fields of study.

“You must leave your host communities better than you met it, it is only then that you will have communicated value." He concluded.

The CDS is a compulsory aspect of the service year as it is the third cardinal program of the scheme which is a compulsory requirement for the issuance of the Certificate of National Service.
