I graduated with a first class in accounting and finance and finished my nysc 3 years ago, since then i have attended interviews but to no avail, but immeidately i finished nysc i started trading forex while looking for jobs, i also involved myself in my friend's entertainment start up 2 years ago as a web administrator on his website, travelled with him regularly for shoots even without pay, i also learnt digital marketing certified from google to improve my SEO skills, i took alot of courses on how to code and build websites which i do today, i equally write books though i do this passively, am still hopeful i can have a tech start up soon which is far from what i dreamt of when i was studying accounting and finance in school, but where i project the world is going to or still get a job and open it later in the future as clients on web development do not come very often. i just love learning, i applied for a few scholarships over the years but still no reply, God will do it for me.

You don't know where to use a comma(,) and a fullstop(.) when constructing a sentence, yet you're a first class graduate! Nawaoo.

Again, you said you've been writing books? You'll soon make people choke to death while reading your marathon, unpunctuated sentences and paragraphs.

This is why we need a revolution in This country.

We need to overthrow this satanic government and slaughter every single politician who's stolen from us.

The problem with some of us is that they don't want to start small.
I also graduated with a 2.1 in Accounting. When I finished my NYSC in 2006, There was no job for me.
I took up a teaching a appointment close to my house for 1500 per week. YES! 1500 per week, yet the principal wouldn't pay me early.
I literally taught JSS1 to SS3 3x a week for 1500.

I later left the teaching job for a free a marketing job yet i got no single commission.
I used my leg to trek the whole of Abuja looking for investors to no avail. Of course who would take me serious after seeing my rough coat (dat one no be suit) and one sided shoe. I did all that hoping for a better tomorrow. (Wey don come for me)

Let's learn to start small!
You finished 2006
That was a different Nigeria
Honestly I feel so sorry for those who graduated within the Buhari era
They really got a raw deal
That's why I am not quick to castigate them.
Things are tough

I honestly cant understand how someone will graduate will first class and be jobless.
Well, Most times, the naija education system rewards only people who can just memorize and then pour down on exam days while most of them are not intelligent.

One time i was working somewhere and was on an interview panel only to see a guy who had Second Class lower but cant express himself correctly.

The Problem is not that there are no jobs, the problem is that, there are not enough skilled graduates to take on lots of jobs.

If you graduate with first class, what do you have upstairs? I graduated with 3rd class and have never been unemployed and have never gotten a job through connection.

I saw jobs online, apply and get them.
There are not jobs
And there are not enough qualified hands too
It's a two edged sword
A multi pronged problem
Name 50 viable companies worth their salt in Nigeria that can absorb 9000 employees or more
You only looked at one side of the problem

To those who didn't do well in school that are consoling themselves that having first class or 2nd class upper does not matter be deceiving yourselves o! What is worth doing is worth doing well. If you can get a first class get it and if it's 2nd class upper get it. The bottom line is that it's not everyone that will eat with their certificate. Destiny, fate plays their part as well. Your destiny might be to make it through education, so if you graduate with a poor grade that's your cup of tea and some, their destiny is making it outside good grades(education) but still you need to make good grades because no one knows tomorrow or what fate has prepared for one. So whatever you do, do it well even if you may end up not using it.

System failure

Greed has eaten deep in us. We all know the right things to do. But that dirty traits in us won't. I'll rather hoards millions/billions of money in local/foreign currency, have litters of cars, houses, landed properties, look so Porsche. Just name it. We have friends, families, neighbours who are needy. Blacks are greedy. The whites did exploits us. Your fellow blacks are the ones conniving with those whites running factories/industries right here to pay her fellow blacks meagre income. Our security personnel are their escort. They sometimes follow one way that you and i dare not follow. We go to their country and we're being treated with disdain.

We are our problem.
You are right

I'm Still an undergraduate o.Now they are saying no job for graduates. Both undergraduate and graduates are suffering...Seems school is a mistake!
Honestly, the best thing to do after secondary school is to learn a skill, get properly established and then run part-time program in any university close by. In your own case, since you are already in School, it's best to learn a soft skill like ui/ux design or coding and make sure you are very very good at it before you finish NYSC. Just pray guy, a friend of mine graduated with a 2.2 and got a job in Lagos immediately after NYSC, that was the first job he has every applied for. He collected his NYSC certificate like today, saw the job advert on operamini new pop-up, he just edited someone's CV then applied next thing, they called him for a zoom interview and that was how he got a job in a telecom company.

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING, THAT MAYBE THE GUY IS INTELLIGENT, BROS, THE GUY IS JUST AN AVERAGE GUY, VERY VERY AVERAGE. YET HE GOT THE VERY FIRST JOB HE APPLIED FOR AFTER GRADUATION. WITHOUT CONNECTION, FOR THIS NIGERIA OH grin MORAL OF THIS TRUE LIFE STORY, ALWAYS PRAY FOR GOD'S GRACE.

This may not apply to every first class holder here, but the truth is, most first class graduate got first class because they wanted to make name. Most of them don't know practically what they think they know, they are the type that read to pass, instead of reading to know.

I am a second class lower division holder (3.08, B.Agric Soil science) I studied soil science because I really wanted to know, passion drove me, I really wanted to know what is involved. I struggled after I was bereaved of my dad and elder brother.

I learnt on my own what I ought to learn. After graduating, all my mates who graduated with a first class and second class upper division (2.1) don't know how to carry out soil sampling or even carry out a soil health assessment. Like, there are some simple practical things they couldn't do. I am not saying first class is bad, but what is the content of the holder? That's what every first class holder should ask him or herself.

Currently, I am the founder of Yield Naija a soil management service start up. I am currently holding talks to oversee a firm in Cameroon which uses robotics to do soil sampling and fertility assessment for farmers. Also planning my MSc degree in soil physics and conservation.

This is not to intimidate anyone, but to change our mindsets. You may have a first class, but WHAT DO YOU KNOW? the big question.

PS: I redeployed from EE to soil science.
Agriculture has always been my passion.

I believe this is not an official publication, i can observe punctuation if want or not, i can even use pidgin if i want, but let me say this, posting on nairaland is not a test of your credibility, am simply voicing out what i have been doing for the past years since graduation. If you have nothing nice to say get over peoples comment than try to pick faults no one cares about your negative energy.

Second Class Upper, had a banking job and when recession came in 2016, they laid all the last entry level off, it’s 5 years now and at best, the highest paying job have gotten since then is 50k, I had to stop and started doing my own thing cos they were practically using me, I was doing everything, when I say everything I mean it. Managed the finance, HR, Sales, office administration, planing and all cos I reported to the business owner directly, at some point she won’t even come to the office for 2weeks and when I asked for a pay rise, she kept giving several excuses and kept compelling me to wait till the next month after the fourth month of waiting for the rise I left and I’ve been on the street since then, 8 months now and counting.

Nigeria is bleeped up
That’s the honest truth

You write very well Sir. whether we believe it or not our ability to express ourselves in verbally and in written form goes a long way in defining our personality.

I really loved your write up which reflected your abilities and innate capacity. Your attitude however NEEDS revamping. You need to change your appreciation of whatever life presents to you at any point in time.

In this particular case that woman gave you a great opportunity to learn and understand (and first hand too) the ropes of management. You are indebted to her. You will only come to value the experience you have drawn from this in the future when circumstances require your tapping from that epoch of your life.

This is my very modest opinion.

Think about it.

Truly a great thread.

For some it is the biggest pity party of the year.

For others it is the long awaited platform that will enable them have their fill in blaming 'the system'.

For some others it is yet a platform for self aggrandizement and self projection.

On the whole, it is what it is.

Life is perfect. It operates on principles that are driven by perfection. Nothing else.

One's credibility can't be tested by one post on naira land, some people will do everything they can to bring other people down it is in their nature. He knew the message i was trying to pass across, but ignored it and looked at punctuation to discredit every single thing i said. which is ultimately useless in an unofficially discussion like this.

Poland for instance nope. I know that German ask for it some Belgian schools do ask as well.

In my opinion if you can you should because it will give an edge over someone that didn't. In the past they don't ask for it but since our people and Chinese students started using fake degree most schools started asking for it.
