Where Are They Now? It was 16 years ago that three young men were short listed for the Adidas Golden Ball award for best player at the FIFA U21 World Cup that held in the Netherlands between June 10th and July 2nd. Lionel Messi won the award and Nigeria's Mikel Obi and Taiye Taiwo came 2nd and 3rd respectively. Argentina defeated Nigeria 2 - 1 in the final with Messi scoring both Argentina's goals via penalties and Chinedu Ogbuke scoring for Nigeria Nigeria has not returned to the finals since 2005.
