The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) gesture at ensuring transparency during the creation of additional polling units is commendable. For the first time in 25 years, Nigerians could not raise objections due to diligent consultations INEC made with relevant stakeholders during the process.

According to Dr Reuben Abbati “What many Nigerians would even find more instructive is the announcement by the INEC Chairman that 749 polling units have been removed from inappropriate places: shrines, churches, mosques, and private residences. The figure that has been announced is probably modest. The publication of the polling units must provide room for the electorate to help identify more of such strange locations”. It is expected that after the publication and assessment of the additional polling units, the 25-year old puzzle would be finally solved.
