I will still be in my profession, No regrets. A lawyer. However, i would have tried to aqcuire a lot more of investment skills to ensure i build a solid financial empire. Then i would have capped it up with knowledge of taxation so that i can avoid all avoidable taxes. ( I did not say evade oo).

But hey, it aint late yet, i am inching along, wahala is there is hardly enough time sha.

I wouldn't change anything. Besides, all you guys are prolly still under 40. maybe even under 30. You can start afresh any time, you have the opportunity now.

wherever you find yourself in the world determines your earning power. I know a doctor that finished from OAU that was earning only 40k per month as salary working for a private hospital as at 2007. He only had a financial breakthrough after he established his own hospital. Whereas his colleagues in the UK earn up to £5000/month after tax just 2years after they graduate.

mbulela:

my oga, the figures are not very correct o! according to them.
more like 140k and 700k respectively and that is inclusive of all.
but it is still very impressive.
they should not complain again but you and i know that is not going to happen.

140k?, The problem is very few of them secure jobs with civil service, Supply is more than demand. Same applies to ''charge and bail'' lawyers.
Anyone studying medicine or law in naija should just forget about the money and think more of selfless service,  wink

I studied Science/Technology, work in Retail/Private Banking and hoping to get into Investment Banking, that's the big league.

I studied Physics in univ cos I wanted to be a physicist. Knowing what I know now, I would have double majored in Maths and Economics. Followed by a masters in Applied and Computational Maths and cap it up with a PhD in Financial Economics and/or Mathematical Finance and drag an MBA while a PhD student.  After these, I will work for some time and run my own hedge fund and/or private equity firm. Then I will become your president. On completing my 8 year term,  I will become a professor of Finance in naija- just so i will not steal your money and open one of the best secondary school in any city where I live to teach kids. I will be the principal cum  maths and economics teacher.  Every evening, I will sit down under a mango tree and read the newspaper with my wife. And life is good,  Now am back from never never land. Was I tangentially off?,  lol,  DREAMS. Pls dont wake me up,

BABE!:

smiley That's what I'm trying to eradicate; the weird ratio of male Gynes to female Gynes. There are too many male Gynes out there, which is quite absurd.

Most women prefer male gynes? Statistics abeg! grin The reason why they "prefer" male Gynes is because they have no choice--lol---

I'm not reconsidering. Thanks for the discouraging speech. grin I'm "working" for a Gynecologist presently as an "internship", it's not bad atall. I love it!

Btw, who told you I was weak.?  angry

Babe my sister, dat na story that women prefer male gynaes. In SE London with a very diverse population, bimanuel exams for male students na reggae sometimes. Lots of ladies on cultural/religious grounds don't consent to it. Doing EUA wasn't easy. Many women grudgingly accept it.
I read in BMJ some years back that male gynae trainees have the highest level of complaints in the UK. Precisely due to reluctance on the part of women.

You don't go into medicine thinking about money. It is called one of the great professions historically in the Uk along with law and theology.
Because of the dedication they demand.
Hence all these professions are accorded extra-ordinary privileges like hearing a confession (a man catching gonorrhoea after cheating, telling ur vicar you were once a highway robber or telling your lawyer you actually killed someone on purpose but you want to plead insanity) and are allowed to keep them confidential.
Sure you wonder sometimes when you go to naija and see a bunch of rude medics. Disgusting. Sha there are rude medics everywhere but many naija ones take the biscuit grin grin

You must be totally dedicated to helping those suffering. Your remuneration is only an appreciation for that dedication to do no harm, help the sick/poorly and save lives.

You are also not correct here. The real figures range from 190k to 1 million. Trust me I know what I am talking about, the first poster is closer to reality cool
House officer earning 190k?in which state of the federation?
consultant earning 1 million before call duty allowance?
i rest my case.
however,i disagree with you.trust me, i know what i am also talking but we will leave it at that.

i'd stick with archaeology which is what i was originally interested in but got no support on the home front?

however, to play safe and please everybody, i'd choose to be an architect if possible.

i do like archaeology though.

Very unfortunate. And you would have been really good at it

You still seem fixated on it though, and if I were you, I'd let it go.

What you cant get, it is better to ignore it.

BTW, so what do you do now?
