The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said on Wednesday that it might summon the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dimeji Bankole, over the controversial N10bn loan in the House.

The commission said it might be necessary for the Speaker to answer questions on the alleged fraudulent deals in the House of Representatives.

The inauguration of the new assembly should not stop his arrest right away as he's not covered by constitutional immunity.

Are you sure about this? On paper he remains covered until he steps down in a few days time.

I am sure snowdrops. The only public officials that are covered by the immunity clause are the President and his Vice in addition to all the state governors and their deputies. That is all.

Apart from the embarrassment (which is social or moral) which may trail the arrest of a sitting House of Reps Speaker, there is no legal provision that protects him from being arrested and tried.
