Funny to see people mistake African Savannah Hare with African gaint rat. That so called Bush rat is called African gaint rat, they live in the wild or usually stay or live on tree tops or building roofs. But What this OP posted is the African Savannah Hare. Yes it's a cousin to the Rabbit and not a bush rat. The African Hare lives in holes or Burrows in the ground and are way smarter and faster than the domesticated foreign Rabbits. Some also mistake the African tree squirrel as rabbit or rats. These first picture is what they OP caught, while the second is what the white tailed African Gaint rat looks like.

@ op, the last time you saw the creature last was 25years ago (meaning it's a rare specie or on the verge of extinction), you saw it today again and all you did is to kill it as if you wouldn't have eaten if you never saw it.
