The truth is that they are divided, some of them say they are Igbo and some say they are not. Ohaneze Ndigbo have representative from them. You cannot say that all in Elele say they are not Igbo. Let me help you out here. Read with unbiased mind. Some Igbos called the Arnu (Aro) people migrated to Ikwerre land with an aura of priesthood during Aro long juju era. They became overbearing on the Ikwerre people and all other tribes including the Igbo communities they found themselves. During the war some locals took advantage of the war to vent out their anger against them. Some of them had left Igbo land a long time and their generation knew no other home other than the communities they found themselves. Those who could trace their ancestral home in Igbo land ran back. Those that could not took refuge in some Ikwerre communities like Elele and Isiokpo.
It is their descendants in these areas that have always claimed to be Igbo because even till date there is still resentment about their descendants. They live like second class citizens in these communities. Please carry out investigation.
Any person who claims to be Ikwerre and agrees to be Igbo must be one of the descendants of the Arnus(Aro.)
