Both PMP and ITIL serve different purposes. ITIL is not created for project management but simply for IT service management using the best practices. Both PMP and ITIL are good certifications . If your goal is to be a good Project manager in the field of Information Technology, engineering, architecture and practically any fields you can imagine, simply go for PMP. However , if your goal is to be an IT Manager , Chief Technology Officer, Head of IT etc , then go for ITIL starting with the foundational certification before proceeding to the more advanced stages. Also, please note, ITIL is also applicable to every other fields too just like PMP. It is not restricted to information technology only. The skills can be transferred to other corporate areas and business too.
