1. Switch the car on and let it run idle for 15mins ..
check temperature gauge and engine sound …
test drive to check gear select well…
check underneath car to see if bottom pan still ok or sign of oil leakage…
switch it off , on the car stereo for about 10mins and check if the car battery runs down or still ok to be sure electrical system still fair …
if u have money buy a good scanner and scan….

I believe if they is a problem u will easily spot it on

2. If you want to buy a used car, Make sure it is not a strange car. So that if you need information about the said car, you will have alternatives.
On physical examination, the body, open the bonnet, check to see if the car has been involved in an accident, because if the chasis has been affected it will always affect the tyre alignment.

Then put on the engine, even if it was not running go to the exhuast deep your finger and check the coulour and texture of the carbon. will tell you if the engine is weak or that the injector or carburator is bad. Then if the engine is running you can as well check the coulour of the smoke, blue or white smoke is oil shortage or engine weakness, black shoot is bad carburator or injector that is fuel wastage.

Then nucking sound on the engine is either bad top cylnder or clearance of the engine metals or clearance on the grooves of the cranshaft.
Then physical appearance will tell you about oil leakage, weak engines leak oils do to weak oil seals. Deep the oil gadge to see if there are iron fillings like tiny sands in the oil. That will tell you the condition of the rings and the metals which you have equally confirmed from the coulour of the smoke from the car. Good engines when steamed will bring out drops of water and the injector or carburator will be cool no mater how long it steamed

Check the 4 edges of the car to find out if the car is first body or the one that has been panel beated severally, you can as well use magnet to see if the body has filler but not direct touch but with a cover like the case of your ipad.

Check possible lines of the door to see if they are in allignment with the lines on the body.

See how easily the doors could open and close.

Then test run to see how smooth the gear can change and how responsive is the clutch plate for manual and gear filbers for the automatic drives. The mileage can as well tell the age of the vehicle assuming there is no engine change or gear because it is attached to the gearbox
