dupyshoo: I like to encourage women into tech and help them with their journey but because I do this for free, I’m not always available and don’t take too many people on. I just stand as support, someone to rub mind with, cheerlead and help plan career. There’s another lady that helps, I don’t believe she charges (she may), I got her permission to put her name here but I need to respect her privacy so I keep deleting it. 2 Likes 1 Share |

mrcodebreaker: Usually one or two but not more than 2 ..... and if available they can tell you to start immediately after referencing and paper work is done IR35 has come to stay so might not be as lucrative however it all depends on several factors. Only advice is ensure you be ready to deliver. With contract roles you have to deliver or they will easily kick you out. Perm roles are more tolerant 1 Like |

I can't agree more with the bolded. I have seen some contractors (even Nigerians) that copy other people's CV to apply for roles they cannot deliver. They usually put "Senior" in front of their CV when they have not even done Junior role before. A lot of them last only 2-3 weeks. They move from one contract jobs to another. There are some contractors that I respect though cos they are very knowledgeable and I learn a lot from them. LagosismyHome: 3 Likes 1 Share |

dupyshoo: Lol omo no be lie. Contractors can be hired and fired at any time. I remember one indian guynin my team. He was there for like 1 month and it was supposed to be 3 month contract. Next thing after one day I no see am again. No goodbyes nothing. Manager lowkey cut him loose sharply. But the baba was dull sha lol. I don’t even know how they hired him. Contracting money dey enter eye sha but I no go lie, I wouldn’t want to want to be without a contract gig. Plus cos them call you for interview no he guarantee of the job. Last time I interviewed a contract role. The live coding session with 2 devs were a bit of a mess as it was timed with no time to focus and think critically. Imagine doing that every 6 months. Etc For some contract dev roles I think its live coding sessions as hiring is too quick for take home tasks. Might be wrong so someone enlighten me. 1 Like 1 Share |

Hello all. My wife and i are planning to come to the UK next year September. She's coming for study while i work. Speaking about work, I run a business here in nigeria in the Digital marketing space. Have spent the last three years specializing in PPC advertising via google ads which means i should be able to get into the advertising agency in the uk if i can plan out all the required certificates and experience needed, though i have most of them already. Just wanted to ask if there are prospect of work over there and also i would like to know what happens if i decide to simply continue my business from there since its mostly online. Would it affect my work permit given if am not using it for work as its meant to be. Are there repercussions? I just wanted to have an idea so that i can plan accordingly, If am going to be working with an advertising agency in the uk which is what am hoping for if am to look for work or simply running my own advertising agency for businesses in the uk while my wife goes to school to further her career. Would appreciate your response. BTW: My wife would be applying for biomedical science and we just started processing her passport with the change of name and other document we are trying to get which is why getting into january might not be as much feasible for us. |
